Skills
- Deep knowledge of machining methods and manufacturing processes
- Experience with supplier quality systems and qualification processes (PPAP, APQP, FAI)
- Statistical methods and DOE/Six Sigma proficiency
- Experience with quality systems (ISO 9000/AS9100/NADCAP)
- Strong written and verbal communication and stakeholder influence skills
- Structured problem-solving and root-cause analysis capability
- Ability to manage NPI and supplier change control
- Willingness to work extended hours when necessary and travel up to 30%
- Eligible under ITAR export regulations (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, refugee, or asylee)
Responsibilities
- Serve as primary technical point of contact for complex machined components across the supply chain and mitigate program risk
- Drive piece-part quality, yield, and cost improvements through first-principles analysis of design, materials, and processes
- Identify, evaluate, and onboard new suppliers including technical assessments, qualification activities, and process capability validation
- Identify and implement alternative manufacturing methods (castings, forgings, machining) to reduce cost and lead time and improve quality
- Own NPI and supplier qualification for new parts, drawing changes, process changes, and sourcing activities
- Act as liaison between purchasing, engineering, manufacturing, and suppliers to resolve quality issues and provide technical support
- Lead root cause investigations and corrective actions using structured problem-solving to implement robust solutions
- Provide data-driven recommendations on manufacturability, cost, quality, and lead-time tradeoffs to influence design and sourcing
Education
- Bachelor's degree in engineering (mechanical, materials, metallurgical, chemical, or related field) required
- Advanced degree in engineering or related field preferred but not required
