- Direct hands-on injection mold design and/or mold construction experience
- Strong 3D CAD skills with advanced surfacing and large assembly experience
- Experience with mold simulation tools (Autodesk Moldflow) and scientific/RJG molding
- DFM for injection molding, gating strategy, and mold maintenance procedures
- Supplier management and experience with domestic and Asian vendors
- Experience creating FAI/PPAP and production qualification deliverables
- Ability to manage multiple concurrent programs and communicate across functions
- Willingness to travel frequently (≈50%) and work extended hours as needed
Responsibilities
- Lead development of new plastic injection tooling projects to meet performance and cosmetic requirements
- Collaborate with supply management, product design, industrial design, and manufacturing engineering on material selection, DFM, and aesthetics
- Research and qualify new materials, manufacturing technologies, and finish options
- Prepare prototype and production tooling RFQs and inform cost estimations for tooling, secondary processes, and piece parts
- Participate in supplier audits, selection, and weekly build progress reviews; manage T1 sample activities
- Perform final tooling design approvals including gating strategy, Moldflow and Mold Warp review, and DFM with suppliers
- Generate FAI and PPAP documentation and assess part quality at tooling trials; direct corrective actions and tooling modifications as required
- Maintain and publish a live master tooling schedule and run multiple programs in parallel
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, or related engineering discipline OR 10+ years professional experience engineering injection mold tools in lieu of a degree
- Proven track record in consumer electronics product and tooling development
