Financial Operations Internship

Founded in 2009, Shift Markets began in the traditional finance world as a leader in the FX space. Sensing the seismic shifts taking place in the financial industry, and the disruptive power of cryptocurrencies and blockchain, we made it our mission to make these decentralized trends accessible to every business, from market leaders to small retailers.

We are offering an internship opportunity in Financial Operations, beginning at the start of the intern’s semester and concluding before the following semester begins. As our Finance Operations intern, your areas of focus will be supporting daily financial processes, reconciliations, reporting, and compliance documentation. You’ll be regularly interacting with members of the Finance Operations team and will be mentored by our VP of Finance Operations. The goal is to add professional context to the student’s specialized academic program for the upcoming academic year. A major in Econometrics, Finance (or a related major, such as Accounting), is best suited for tying this internship to an academic program. 

Responsibilities

As a Financial Operations Intern, you will gain valuable experience by:

• Assisting with daily reconciliation of daily transactions and balances.
• Supporting preparation of daily, weekly, and monthly financial reports, including cash flow and treasury reports.
• Helping track and document internal financial operations processes, ensuring accuracy and compliance.
• Participating in variance analysis by comparing projections vs. actual results.
• Supporting internal control testing and compliance documentation.
• Conducting research on vendors, transaction costs, and service providers for benchmarking.
• Joining cross-functional meetings, capturing key financial insights, and following up on action items.

This is an unpaid internship requiring 20 hours per week, which can be completed fully remote or in a hybrid format with our New York City headquarters. Internships at Shift Markets are for academic credit and are conducted without entitlement to a paid position upon completion.

Requirements

The ideal intern is familiar with the following programs used by our company:

• Google Apps Suite (Docs, Sheets, Slides, etc.)
• Microsoft Excel
• Notion

The ideal intern already has these required skills:

• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong analytical and quantitative abilities
• Meticulous attention to detail and well organized
• Ability to give and receive constructive feedback to refine and improve
• Self-motivated and able to focus in a remote environment
• Adapts well to quickly changing priorities
