Senior Mechanisms Systems Engineer

Relativity Space builds rockets and factory-scale manufacturing systems to enable rapid access to space. The Mechanisms team designs mission-critical mechanical systems—actuators, latches, and thrust vector control—and seeks a Senior Mechanisms Systems Engineer to lead system-level design, integration, and verification of large mechanism systems for the Terran R vehicle.

Skills

  • System-level design and integration experience for mechanical/electromechanical systems
  • Experience developing requirements, CONOPS, and verification plans
  • Hands-on test planning, execution, and test automation skills
  • Cross-disciplinary leadership and coordination with GNC, avionics, and software teams
  • Risk identification and mitigation for complex hardware programs
  • Strong technical communication and programmatic judgment

Responsibilities

  • Define system concepts of operations (CONOPS), derive requirements, and author verification plans for mechanism systems
  • Lead integrated product activities across mechanical design, actuators, GNC, avionics, and software teams to ensure system-level performance
  • Develop, author, and execute development and verification test plans; establish success criteria and lead flight-readiness activities
  • Anticipate technical and logistical risks, develop mitigation strategies, and align priorities across engineering disciplines and schedules
  • Coordinate design, manufacturing, integration, and test schedules for complex mechanism systems
  • Provide hands-on technical ownership for emergent challenges, including designing test fixtures, specifying sensors, writing test automation, and leading root-cause investigations
  • Support test and launch activities, including occasional travel and shifted/weekend schedules as required

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, or related engineering field
  • 5+ years relevant experience in design, manufacturing, assembly, or test of complex mechanical or electromechanical systems
  • Demonstrated experience leading multi-disciplinary engineering projects

Benefits

  • Competitive salary and equity
  • Generous PTO and sick leave policy
  • Parental leave
  • Annual learning and development stipend
  • Comprehensive benefits package (medical/dental/vision and other typical employee benefits)
  • Opportunity to work on flight hardware and influence product, process, and culture
