Skills
- Proven experience building and validating FEA/process simulations for metal additive manufacturing
- Proficiency with industry-standard FEA tools (e.g., Abaqus, ANSYS) and process-simulation approaches
- Strong scripting and automation skills (Python recommended) to build repeatable workflows
- Familiarity with material characterization, constitutive modeling, and experimental validation
- Experience integrating simulation results into design and manufacturing decision processes
- Good software engineering practices: version control, reproducibility, and documentation
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain FEA and process simulation models (thermal, structural, residual stress, distortion) for metal additive manufacturing processes.
- Create material models and process-physics representations for powder-bed and directed-energy deposition workflows.
- Automate simulation workflows and integrate them into engineering toolchains and design review processes.
- Validate simulation predictions against lab and production test data; iterate models based on experimental results.
- Collaborate closely with propulsion, manufacturing, materials, and design teams to drive qualification and production ramp.
- Optimize designs and process parameters for manufacturability, performance, and yield using simulation-led studies.
- Document methods, results, and assumptions; present findings to cross-functional stakeholders and leadership.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Materials, or related engineering field (required)
- Master’s or PhD in a related field preferred, especially with relevant simulation research or thesis
