You in The Role and on The Team 

As a Mechanical Project Engineer at Prime Robotics, you are a technically skilled professional who transforms high-level customer proposals into build-ready robotic warehouse automation solutions and drives their implementation. Reporting to the VP of Project Delivery, you will own the end-to-end technical execution of customer projects from post-sales through deployment, ensuring seamless delivery of our warehouse automation solutions while maintaining the highest standards of technical excellence and customer satisfaction.

A Day in the Life at Prime Robotics 

Project Translation & Design Development 

  • Finalize and translate high-level sales proposals into detailed, build-ready designs across mechanical, software, and systems engineering disciplines 
  • Own and drive the development of final layout drawings, system architecture, pallet/rack configurations, and hardware BOMs for robotic case-pick systems 
  • Coordinate and review racking designs, robot staging plans, and integration zones to ensure seamless compatibility with warehouse environments 
  • Develop comprehensive design packages that translate customer requirements into actionable engineering specifications 
  • Create detailed technical documentation including interface specifications, system architecture diagrams, and component layouts 
  • Validate solution feasibility, system capacity, and customer-specific configuration needs through thorough engineering analysis 

Cross-Functional Technical Leadership 

  • Serve as the primary technical liaison between Sales Engineering, Manufacturing, Software, and Field Deployment teams 
  • Lead the handoff process from sales to execution, ensuring all technical requirements are clearly understood and achievable 
  • Support software architecture planning to align workflows (picking logic, exception handling, user interface) with hardware capabilities and customer operations 
  • Collaborate with manufacturing and procurement teams to push production schedules and resolve design-related blockers proactively 
  • Coordinate with field deployment teams to ensure designs are optimized for installation and commissioning 
  • Facilitate technical communication between internal teams and external stakeholders including customers and vendors 

Design Validation & Risk Management 

  • Conduct design validation checks, field constructability reviews, and mechanical/electrical interface evaluations 
  • Perform comprehensive system capacity analysis to ensure designs meet customer throughput and performance requirements 
  • Identify engineering risks early and work cross-functionally to mitigate scope creep or timeline impact 
  • Execute pre-implementation design reviews to catch potential issues before they affect project timelines 
  • Validate mechanical interfaces, electrical connections, and software integration points for seamless system operation 
  • Develop contingency plans for potential design challenges or field implementation issues 

Customer Interface & Site Management 

  • Support customer design reviews and adjust engineering plans to reflect site-specific requirements or evolving operational needs 
  • Conduct on-site surveys to validate warehouse layouts, infrastructure capabilities, and integration requirements 
  • Lead technical discussions with customer engineering teams, operations managers, and IT personnel 
  • Present design solutions, system capabilities, and implementation timelines to customer stakeholders 
  • Manage customer expectations regarding technical capabilities, project timelines, and operational requirements 
  • Coordinate with customer teams to schedule installation activities and minimize operational disruption 

Documentation & Project Management 

  • Maintain and distribute technical documentation including design packages, interface specs, and system readiness checklists 
  • Create and maintain project technical documentation throughout the implementation lifecycle 
  • Develop and update project schedules, milestone tracking, and deliverable timelines 
  • Generate technical reports, progress updates, and risk assessments for internal and customer stakeholders 
  • Ensure all design changes are properly documented, approved, and communicated to relevant teams 
  • Maintain version control and configuration management for all project technical deliverables 

Key Success Factors 

Technical Excellence 

  • Robotics implementation experience with hands-on knowledge of robotic systems deployment and commissioning 
  • Warehouse automation knowledge including material handling systems, WMS integration, and operational workflows 
  • Systems engineering mindset to understand complex interactions between hardware, software, and operational requirements 
  • Design validation skills including constructability analysis, interface evaluation, and risk assessment 
  • CAD proficiency for creating and modifying technical drawings and system layouts 
  • Mechatronic systems expertise with strong understanding of mechanical, electrical, and software integration 

Project Management & Communication 

  • Cross-functional collaboration skills to work effectively with sales, engineering, manufacturing, and field teams 
  • Customer relationship management abilities to build trust and manage technical discussions with diverse stakeholders 
  • Project coordination experience managing multiple concurrent projects with varying timelines and requirements 
  • Technical communication skills for translating complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences 
  • Problem-solving abilities to identify issues early and develop creative solutions under pressure 
  • Documentation excellence for maintaining clear, accurate, and comprehensive project records 

Travel & Field Work Capabilities 

  • Flexibility for travel up to 40% including site surveys, vendor meetings, customer visits, and implementation support 
  • Site assessment skills for evaluating warehouse environments, infrastructure, and integration requirements 
  • Field implementation support including troubleshooting, validation, and customer handoff activities 
  • Vendor relationship management for coordinating with suppliers, contractors, and integration partners 
  • Adaptability to work in diverse warehouse environments and adjust to varying customer operational requirements 

Location: Remote

Travel: 30-40%

Salary Range: $90,000-$120,000

Education 

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Industrial Engineering, or related technical field 
  • OR equivalent combination of technical education and hands-on warehouse automation experience 

Professional Experience 

  • 3-5 years of warehouse automation implementation experience with direct project involvement 
  • 2+ years of robotics implementation experience including system design, deployment, or commissioning 
  • Experience with software solutions integration including WMS, control systems, or automation software 
  • Proven track record of successful customer-facing technical projects from design through implementation 
  • Project management experience coordinating cross-functional teams and managing technical deliverables 

Technical Skills 

  • CAD software proficiency (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar) for creating and modifying technical drawings 
  • Project management tools experience with scheduling, tracking, and documentation systems 
  • Technical documentation skills for creating specifications, procedures, and system documentation 
  • Robotics and automation knowledge including sensors, actuators, control systems, and safety protocols 
  • Mechatronic systems understanding including mechanical design, electrical systems, and control integration 

 

Preferred Qualifications 

Advanced Experience 

  • Warehouse Management System (WMS) integration experience with major platforms (Manhattan, SAP, Oracle) 
  • Material handling systems experience including conveyors, sorters, and automated storage systems 
  • Industrial networking knowledge including Ethernet/IP, Profinet, or other industrial communication protocols 
  • Safety systems experience with industrial automation safety standards and risk assessment 
  • Lean manufacturing or process improvement experience with waste reduction and efficiency optimization 

Industry Expertise 

  • Distribution center operations experience with pick-and-pack, inventory management, and fulfillment processes 
  • System commissioning experience including testing, validation, and customer acceptance procedures 
  • Vendor management experience working with equipment suppliers, system integrators, and contractors 
  • Customer training experience including operator training, maintenance procedures, and system handoff 
  • Performance optimization experience with throughput analysis, cycle time improvement, and operational efficiency 

Specialized Skills 

  • PLC programming experience with Allen-Bradley, Siemens, or similar industrial control platforms 
  • SCADA/HMI development experience for operator interfaces and system monitoring 
  • Database management skills for system configuration, reporting, and data analysis 
  • 3D modeling capabilities for system visualization and layout planning 
  • Cost estimation experience for project budgeting and change order management 

 

Physical and Work Environment 

Physical Requirements 

  • Ability to work in warehouse and industrial environments including temperature variations, noise, and dust 
  • Walking, standing, and climbing for extended periods during site surveys and implementations 
  • Lifting up to 50 lbs when handling equipment, components, and testing materials 
  • Manual dexterity for equipment operation, measurements, and hands-on troubleshooting 
  • Visual acuity for technical drawing review, equipment inspection, and quality assessment 

Travel Requirements 

  • Up to 40% travel including overnight trips for site surveys, customer meetings, vendor visits, and implementation support 
  • Flexible schedule to accommodate customer operational requirements and project timelines 
  • Valid driver's license and reliable transportation for local and regional travel
