Backend Software Engineering Manager (Video & Ads Engineering)
Skills
- Strong people management and coaching experience
- Deep backend engineering background building scalable, distributed systems
- Experience with cloud-native deployments (Docker, Kubernetes) and CI/CD
- Familiarity with video streaming concepts (ingest, transcode, packaging, HLS/MPEG-DASH) and ad tech (SSAI, programmatic)
- Proven track record making data-driven decisions for high-traffic systems
- Excellent cross-functional communication and stakeholder management
Responsibilities
- Provide strong people management, 1:1s, coaching, performance feedback, and career development for Video and Ads engineering teams.
- Coordinate with technical leads to plan and deliver projects across ingest, transcode, packaging, SSAI, and delivery pipelines.
- Drive improvements in reliability, performance, video quality, and operational excellence across backend systems.
- Facilitate cross-functional collaboration with product, ad ops, data science, client engineering, and partners.
- Manage hiring, onboarding, and team growth with recruiting to scale backend engineering talent.
- Advocate for team priorities, address tech debt, and make resource allocation decisions with engineering leadership.
- Manage day-to-day partnerships with content providers, CDNs, and ad-tech vendors to ensure optimal delivery and ad performance.
- Stay current with industry trends and act as a technical and strategic advocate for video streaming and ad infrastructure.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience (preferred)
- Advanced degree in a relevant field is a plus but not required
