Staff Software Engineer
Skills
- Systems programming in Rust, C, or C++
- Strong background in operating systems, networking, and concurrency models
- Proven experience architecting highly available, low-latency distributed systems
- Expertise with Linux environments and low-level system interactions
- Memory management, debugging, profiling, and performance optimization
- Experience with secure and compliant production deployments
- Familiarity with cloud and containerized environments (Docker, Kubernetes) preferred
- Ability to lead technical design and mentor engineers
Responsibilities
- Architect high-performance, low-latency backend systems for mission-critical train control applications
- Develop and maintain system-level software primarily in Rust, ensuring scalability, safety, and reliability
- Drive system-wide optimizations including performance, memory management, and fault tolerance
- Partner with product, hardware, and operations teams to align technical solutions with customer needs
- Lead technical design reviews and contribute to long-term architectural roadmaps for distributed, safety-critical systems
- Provide technical mentorship and guidance to engineers across the software team
- Define best practices for secure, compliant, and highly available production software
- Contribute to integration efforts with customer enterprise and train control systems
- Step into project leadership when appropriate to ensure milestones are defined and achieved
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or related field OR equivalent professional experience
- Advanced degree in a relevant discipline preferred but not required
