Senior Data Engineer

The Messaging Platforms team is responsible for building and maintaining the platforms, services, and pipelines which enable Yahoo to target the right user with the right notification at the right time. We send billions of push notifications a day through our platform Rivendell. Our data pipelines enable the delivery of large scale newsletters. We leverage cutting edge technologies to deliver highly impactful projects enabling Yahoo to compete on a global scale.

Responsibilities

As a lead data engineer on the Messaging Platform team, you will be responsible for the bidirectional synchronization of data between Yahoo and our third party partners. This information will help inform vertical partners on the performance of their newsletters and push campaigns. It will enable marketing to build custom audiences using a variety of information sources to ensure desired outcomes. You will be expected to ensure these pipelines and data stores are reliable and efficient.

  • Work on development initiatives as part of a scrum team on sprint cycles.

  • Closely interact with our stakeholders (Product Owners/Managers, Business Analysts, others) for clarity on sprint items and for verification of developed solutions.

  • Participate in team activities such as sprint grooming sessions, project or product discussions, brown bags as well as the occasional team outing.

  • Follow appropriate coding standards and best practices as applicable.

  • Document your work well.

  • Participate in code reviews for your peers.

  • Collaborate with your peers to find solutions to complex problems. Share knowledge with your peers and also learn from them as required.

  • Work on operational and production support for the applications we build and maintain.

  • Work towards quarterly team and organizational goals that should be result oriented and measurable.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors or Master’s degree in Computer Science or related area

  • 5+ years of experience data modeling and building ETL pipelines

  • Proven experience designing, building, and maintaining large-scale, high-throughput data systems and pipelines

  • Experience Python

  • Experience with SQL

  • Experience mentoring team members

Preferred:

  • Experience with Cloud based data solution, preferably GCP, Big Table, Big Query

  • Experience with Big Query, Looker, Airflow

  • Experience building robust fault-tolerant systems

  • Experience building machine learning models

  • Experience with user analytics and performance

The compensation for this position ranges from $120,750.00 - $251,250.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience.The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions.
