Position Overview

The Ohio State University Department of Veterinary Clinical Sciences invites applications for a full-time, tenure or clinical-track faculty position in Cardiology. The successful candidate will join an internationally recognized clinical, teaching, and research program that includes two faculty cardiologists, three cardiology residents, two experienced technicians, and a Cardiology-dedicated liaison who support the Cardiology clinic and the cardiac catheterization suite. The program is centered in a comprehensive teaching hospital and referral center with an annual caseload of over 39,000. Cardiology workspaces include a brand-new Cardiology Clinic Teaching space with 2 adjacent Echo Labs, an upcoming state-of-the-art interventional medicine suite, a Clinical Cardiology Research Laboratory, and an adjacent student learning center (LCR).

Although the majority of the clinical practice involves dogs and cats, the Cardiology service also evaluates heart and vascular diseases in horses, alpacas, and food animals in collaboration with colleagues in the Equine and Large-Animal hospitals. Extensive collaboration among faculty and residents in all clinical specialties results in a vibrant clinical arena that offers truly comprehensive care to veterinary patients with a stimulating practice environment.

Extensive resources are available to support both clinical and research activities in Cardiology. These include: two high-end digital echocardiographic systems (two Vivid E95 with XD Clear technology, raw data storage, and 4D imaging and transesophageal echocardiography) and a Vivid-q system (for bed-side echo); four integrated GE echocardiographic workstations (EchoPacs) with advanced digital applications; C-arm fluoroscopy (GE OEC9900) for cardiac catheterization and interventional procedures; digital and analog hemodynamic monitoring equipment; equipment for cardiac pacing (Medronic and Dextronic permanent pacing systems, temporary pacing systems, a Lifepack® 15 for transcutaneous pacing, electrical defibrillation, and hemodynamic recordings, and equipment for transvenous cardioversion in horses); full surface and Holter-Event ECG equipment, and a fully digital hospital information system (ezyVet) with medical record search capabilities. Other relevant hospital resources include digital radiography; on-site ultrafast 128 slice spiral CT and 3T-MRI; PET-CT; nuclear medicine; and video bronchoscopy. Cardiology works closely with our in-house soft-tissue surgeons as well as pediatric interventional cardiologist from Nationwide Children’s Hospital to perform hybrid and cutting-edge procedures. There are pathology and clinical pathology services available on-site. The OSU Library System includes extensive digital resources as well as Veterinary College and Health Sciences Libraries.

Faculty teaching responsibilities include in-person and remote didactic teaching, labs, and clinical teaching of Cardiology to professional students, interns, and residents. Faculty members are expected to participate in professional outreach, committee service, and curriculum development.
