OpenAI’s Go-To-Market (GTM) team partners with customers to deploy frontier AI systems into production. We work with startups, scale-ups, and global companies across industries to build new capabilities with our models. We turn our models and products into durable solutions that solve complex real-world problems.

About the role

Special Projects is where we take on work that moves OpenAI’s business forward but doesn’t come with instructions. Some projects are strategic and externally visible. Others are hands-on and operational. Together, they create the foundation for how our GTM system scales.

You’ll own projects end to end with real autonomy and visibility to senior leaders. One month, you might launch a new startup program or accelerate technical recruiting. Next, you might design and operate a growth initiative that becomes a repeatable motion. This is varied, hands-on work for someone who learns quickly, moves initiatives to the finish line, and builds lightweight, flexible systems.

This role is based in San Francisco. We use a hybrid work model of 3 days in the office per week and offer relocation assistance to new employees.

In this role, you will:

• Own critical projects from first question to measurable result, driving execution with clear workstreams and follow-through

• Build and run programs that create growth and operational leverage

• Bring clarity to ambiguous, high-leverage work and turn it into actionable plans

• Design systems and playbooks that compound impact beyond a single project

You’ll thrive in this role if you:

• Have 2-4 years in product or similar roles that required independent judgment and end-to-end ownership

• Take initiative, move projects forward, and finish what you start without drift

• Learn quickly, switch contexts fluidly, and thrive on solving new problems

• Know when to bring in others for speed or judgment and never get stuck alone

• Communicate simply and clearly, even when the work is complex
