Oakland University , a public R2 doctoral institution with a medical school, located in the northern suburbs of Metro Detroit, Michigan invites inquiries, nominations, and applications as it searches for a new leader in the Provost's Office: Vice Provost/Associate Vice President of Global and Digital Learning.

The University seeks a collaborative, innovative, and strategic leader to serve as Vice Provost/Associate Vice President of Global and Digital Learning. This new senior role will drive growth in enrollment, international partnerships, and online learning by developing creative approaches beyond traditional models. The VP/AVP will coordinate efforts across campus to strengthen global engagement and digital education, providing clear leadership, advocacy, and accountability. The ideal candidate will be a bridge-builder who can transform ideas into action, positioning Oakland University as a leader in global education and high-quality online programs that enhance all students' global understanding.

Reporting to the Provost, the VP/AVP is a senior-level leadership position in Global and Digital Learning, with the actual title ( Vice Provost or Associate Vice President ) to be determined based on the background of the person selected. The successful candidate for a Vice Provost of Global and Digital Learning appointment will have a distinguished record of teaching and scholarship commensurate with Full or Associate Professor status at Oakland; experience in academic administration, with a record of supporting initiatives in global engagement and online learning; and the ability to manage change. The successful candidate for an Associate Vice President of Global and Digital Learning appointment will have a distinguished record of accomplishments in leadership and the areas of global engagement and online learning.

This exceptional opportunity requires an experienced, inspirational, and talented leader with an impressive record, exemplary judgment, and outstanding communication skills. In a timely and strategic manner, the VP/AVP will address challenges, make decisions based on data, and collaborate with enrollment management and other stakeholders in innovative approaches to increase OU's global and online learning enrollment.

The Office of Global Engagement at OU manages international partnerships, education programs, international students and scholars, and the ESL Institute . OU provides over 300 study abroad programs in more than 45 countries, while the International Students and Scholars Office supports and advocates for international students, fostering global citizenship and multicultural understanding on campus.

The Department of e-Learning and Instructional Support (e-LIS) at OU expands access to high-quality, flexible online learning. It supports faculty, students, and staff through technology services, workshops, and program development. The e-LIS Instructional Design team assists faculty with course design and best practices for online teaching, offering resources for fully online, hybrid, and HyFlex programs; and promotes professional development to keep faculty current on new technologies and effective online teaching methods.

The VP/AVP will oversee Academic Compliance, Global Engagement, and e-LIS to advance enrollment, innovation, and student success. Key priorities include developing a data-driven strategic plan, assessing competitiveness, identifying growth opportunities, and strengthening marketing efforts. The ideal candidate will be visionary, collaborative, globally minded, and skilled in communication, leadership, technology, and data-informed decision-making, with integrity and emotional intelligence.

Required Qualifications: The successful candidate shall demonstrate all of the following required qualifications (based on appointment type) :

For appointment as Vice Provost: A terminal degree earned from an accredited institution; a proven record of teaching, research/scholarship, and service that qualifies for Associate or Full Professor status in a department or school at OU; and at least five completed years of progressively responsible experience overseeing one or more core areas. This experience should include responsibility for budget, personnel, and strategic planning.

For appointment as Associate Vice President: A Master's Degree earned from an accredited institution, and at least five years of progressively responsible experience overseeing one or more core areas. This experience should include responsibility for budget, personnel, and strategic planning.
