Senior Director, Federal Government Affairs

The National Alliance for Public Charter Schools is a mission-driven nonprofit dedicated to expanding access to high-quality public charter school options. We are seeking a seasoned federal government affairs leader to shape and advance our federal policy priorities, represent the charter community before Congress and federal agencies, and lead bipartisan policymaker engagement to grow support for charter school growth, funding, and autonomy.

Skills

  • Deep knowledge of federal legislative and appropriations processes
  • Proven relationships and experience working on Capitol Hill or with congressional offices
  • Strong policy analysis and written/oral communication skills
  • Ability to build bipartisan coalitions and engage diverse stakeholders
  • Experience managing cross-functional projects and leading teams
  • Political acumen and strategic planning for legislative outcomes

Responsibilities

  • Represent the National Alliance before Congress, federal agencies, and the executive branch to promote charter school priorities
  • Analyze, shape, and advance federal policy and appropriations proposals affecting charter school growth, funding, and autonomy
  • Track and assess congressional activity (hearings, markups, legislation) and advise internal teams on implications
  • Lead policymaker education and outreach to build bipartisan support for pro-charter policies
  • Coordinate with national policy partners, state and local charter associations, and coalitions to amplify the charter community’s voice
  • Serve as the National Alliance representative at coalition meetings, congressional briefings, and key stakeholder forums
  • Respond to congressional and partner requests for information, technical assistance, and policy expertise
  • Collaborate with the Charter School Action Fund and partner organizations on strategic political engagement

Education

  • Bachelor's degree required
  • Advanced degree in public policy, law, education, or related field preferred
