POSITION SUMMARY:

The Instrument Engineer will be responsible for supporting Major and Mid Cap projects from early conceptual through project completion. The Instrument Engineer will report to the Major Projects Advanced Project Manager and have responsibility for coordinating and provided instrumentation support to define overall project instrumentation needs and scope.   Projects are typically multi-discipline and will range in size from $25 million to $1 billion and will include both Capital and Expense work.

The successful candidate will be a highly motivated, team-oriented individual that has experience with project work and refinery or petrochemical applications that include process measurement and control, safety instrumented system (SIS) design, electrical area classification, management of change (MOC) processes, and industry standards (NFPA, ISA, IEEE, NEMA, API, etc.).  The position requires the ability to interface with project teams and all departments at the Galveston Bay Refinery.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Manage multiple projects and assignments in a timely, safe, and cost-effective manner.
• Provide direction and oversight to engineering contractors.
• Participate in P&ID development and instrumentation specification register in Conceptual & Feasibility stages for assigned projects.
• Review and approval of design drawings, DCS/PLC/SIS cabinet design, construction work packages, instrument and control specifications, control narratives, and cause and effect diagrams.
• Coordination of input from stakeholders.
• Participation in P&ID development, technical reviews, 3D model reviews,
• Oversight of engineering firms and equipment suppliers during the Definition and Implementation phases for assigned projects.
• Ensures assigned projects comply with all applicable MPC and industry standards and recommendations throughout all phases of the project, e.g. NEC, IEEE, ANSI, NFPA, API, NEMA, etc.
• Participate in management of change (MOC) reviews for applicable projects.
• Manage the Instrument project scope, cost, and schedule to ensure projects are delivered on time on budget, and according to Marathon specifications and standards.  
• Lead the effort in determining preventative maintenance schedules and procedures, setup of spare parts, arrange and provide required training for new instrumentation installed on assigned projects.
• Support construction and commissioning of assigned projects.
• Review and/or approve proposed changes to instrument process safety information (PSI) documents.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

• A High School Diploma or equivalent is required. A Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Chemical Engineering is preferred. (Education must be obtained/completed prior to start date)
• Minimum 5 years of experience with refining or petrochemical or other equivalent manufacturing industry instrument / control systems and applications.
• Knowledgeable of Smart Plant Instrument  (SPI) / Intools
• Knowledgeable of Flow/Level/Temperature/Pressure Meter sizing & selection, Control Valve sizing & selection.
• Must be authorized to work in the US without need for sponsorship.
• A valid Driver's License is required.
• Travel up to 10%
