Research Technical Professional, Payne Institute for Public Policy

Engineering a world of possibilities

The Payne Institute for Public Policy at Colorado School of Mines is seeking an exceptional researcher to work on projects focused on critical minerals development.

These projects will cover a wide range of topics, including but not limited to economic behavioral modeling on a global or regional basis for specific minerals, the impact of prevailing legal, regulatory and economic conditions on critical minerals development in Latin America and other regions of the Global South, and conditions that may foster minerals markets (exchange-based and marketplaces) development. The researcher will work in coordination with interdisciplinary academic teams and have responsibility for managing the activities of student researchers. Further, the position will require management of relationships with third party funders of research programs. With respect to the modeling components of the work, the worker will have primary responsibility for data and model implementation, as well as conducting the model-based analysis.

Duration: Initially, this will be for one year, with the possibility of extension pending performance and continued funding.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree in mining or metallurgical engineering, environmental engineering, statistics, economics, or a related discipline
  • 4+ Years related experience in mining industry, academics or government

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Specific experience with Python, GitHub, Pyomo, Pandas, R, and relational databases
  • Formal education in a combination of mining engineering and economics/business, including economic behavioral modeling
  • Publication record, as proven by peer-reviewed journal articles, conference proceedings, or technicalbooks.
  • Fluency in oral and written Spanish language

Annual Rate 

$68,800

Mines takes into consideration a combination of candidate’s education, training and experience as well as the position’s scope and complexity, the discretion and latitude required in the role, work location, and external market and internal value when determining a salary level for potential new employees.
