Responsibilities
- Perform psychiatric intake, comprehensive assessments and crisis interventions for ED and inpatient mental health patients
- Administer and manage psychotropic and other medications safely and according to policy
- Initiate and implement individualized interdisciplinary plans of care and evaluate patient responses
- Collaborate with Emergency Department physicians, mental health clinicians and multidisciplinary teams to establish patient disposition
- Provide discharge planning, patient/family education and follow-up instructions
- Document care accurately and in real time using electronic health records
- Participate in quality improvement, risk management and unit-level process improvements
- Serve in charge nurse or supervisory roles and assist in orientation/education of new staff as needed
- Utilize evidence-based guidelines and organizational policies to promote safe patient care
Education
- Successful completion of an approved nursing program (ADN or BSN)
- If not BSN, actively working toward BSN completion
- Current Maryland RN licensure
- American Heart Association BLS required
- CPI (Crisis Prevention Intervention) certification may be required within 30 days
- ACLS certification may be required within one year
