Skills
- ASCP/AMT certification (or ability to obtain within 90 days)
- Hands-on experience with clinical lab testing across core disciplines
- Proficient use of Laboratory Information Systems (LIS)
- Competence in performing and documenting QC and troubleshooting assays
- Instrument operation and basic maintenance skills
- Strong communication and documentation practices for critical/value reporting
- Ability to work in a fast-paced acute care environment and adapt to variable workload
- Familiarity with biosafety and handling of blood-borne pathogens
Responsibilities
- Perform clinical laboratory testing across disciplines (hematology, chemistry, microbiology, immunology, serology, urinalysis, immunohematology, etc.)
- Document and report findings in the Laboratory Information System (LIS), including critical value communication
- Perform and document daily quality control and participate in laboratory quality and proficiency programs
- Operate, maintain, and perform basic troubleshooting and preventive maintenance on laboratory instruments
- Manage and monitor laboratory supplies and inventory, place orders, and verify receipts
- Foster inter- and intradepartmental cooperation and support workflow handoffs
- Participate in training and mentoring of new staff and students as a technical resource
- Maintain a safe, compliant work environment and follow infection-control procedures
- Assist with process improvement initiatives and proactively identify opportunities to add value
Education
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with coursework meeting ASCP requirements for MLS/MT
- Certification MLS(ASCP), MT(ASCP), categorical/specialist (ASCP), MT(HEW), or MT(AMT) required or proof of impending certification within 90 days
