Responsibilities
- Perform clinical laboratory testing across disciplines (hematology, chemistry, microbiology, immunohematology, serology, urinalysis, etc.) according to established procedures
- Document results and critical values in the Laboratory Information System (LIS) and communicate abnormal findings to caregivers and appropriate authorities
- Perform and document daily quality control, participate in proficiency testing, and troubleshoot QC issues
- Operate, maintain, and perform preventative maintenance on laboratory instrumentation
- Manage inventory and supplies, placing orders and verifying receipts to ensure uninterrupted operations
- Support inter- and intradepartmental workflow by effective handoffs and cooperation
- Serve as a technical resource or mentor for new staff and students; participate in continuing education
- Maintain a safe and compliant laboratory environment following policies and blood-borne pathogen precautions
Education
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college/university meeting ASCP requirements for MLS/MT
- ASCP (MLS or MT), AMT, HEW, categorical or specialist certification required or evidence of pending certification
- New graduates must provide evidence of certification within 90 days of hire
