Responsibilities
- Collect biological specimens (venipuncture, capillary, heel-stick) and ensure specimen quality and proper labeling
- Process and prepare gynecologic and non-gynecologic samples for microscopic evaluation and referral testing
- Perform daily quality controls, document results, and troubleshoot routine QC issues
- Register patients and accession tests accurately in the Hospital Information System
- Maintain lab supplies inventory and place/expedite orders as needed
- Operate, perform preventive maintenance, and troubleshoot laboratory equipment
- Label and dispose of biohazard and chemical waste per regulatory guidelines
- Provide clinical lab information to staff and participate in training/mentoring of new employees
- Contribute to continuous process improvement and assist with ad-hoc tasks during low census
Education
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Six months experience in an acute care facility or equivalent role preferred
- MLA(ASCP) or PBT(ASCP) preferred but not required
