At Lickability, we believe everyone deserves better software. We work with a range of clients — from startups like Mastodon, The Browser Company, and RevenueCat to established companies like The Atlantic, The New Yorker, and Epic Games — to design, build, and ship apps people love on iOS and Android.
Quality
We are unwavering in our commitment to delivering impeccably crafted, human-centered applications that exceed the highest industry standards.
Collaboration
Collaboration is at the heart of Lickability's creative process. We believe in the power of people with diverse perspectives coming together to tackle challenges and elevate our work.
Balance
We prioritize a supportive, inclusive work environment that fosters both personal and professional growth. By cultivating a sense of balance, we empower our team to thrive — because happy people build great products.
Learning
Our team thrives on a culture of continuous improvement. We embrace challenges as opportunities for growth, encouraging them to explore emerging trends, adopt new technologies, and expand our skills.
We're looking for an experienced iOS engineer to join our small, remote team. In this role, you'll be collaborating with our other developers and designers to ship and maintain beautiful native mobile apps for our clients.
What does "L4" mean? Good question! Since engineering levels can vary a lot between companies, we prefer to focus on the specific responsibilities and impact we're looking for. At this level, you can expect to:
Define architecture for projects and features
Effectively communicate architecture, design patterns, and new concepts via whiteboarding, screen sharing, and pair programming
Understand broader collections of tasks, document dependent work, and prioritize tasks
Choose and communicate resolutions for impediments to clients
Mentor other engineers
Compare, recommend, vet, and teach others to use 3rd party tools
Play a key role in project estimation phase
Define style guide and best practices
Design, maintain, and lead discussion around engineering interview processes
Write advanced unit tests and contribute to testing standards
Be able to provide insight into performance bottlenecks and isolate / work around problem-areas in system and 3rd party APIs
You have experience developing products with Swift & SwiftUI
You have strong communication and collaborative skills
You are authorized to work in the US, and are able to work comfortably with team members located in the Eastern Time Zone
Bonus: Experience with TCA (The Composable Architecture) or related programming paradigms.
Initial call: After reviewing your application, we'll schedule a 45-minute video call to introduce ourselves and give you a chance to ask us any questions you have about the company or the hiring process. We'll also ask you a set of technical questions to help us get a basic understanding of your skill level.
Code exercise: After the initial call, we'll send you a coding challenge to complete on your own time within two weeks, so you can show us your best Swift + SwiftUI work.
Final interview loop: After we've reviewed your code exercise, we'll have a final round of interviews, which includes three parts:
Code Exercise Review — where we'll ask you questions about the coding challenge and go over your programming knowledge.
Problem Solving — where we'll task you with solving a particular coding problem to assess practical knowledge.
Cultural Interview — where we'll get to know you a little better and talk about your background, past work experience, and hobbies.
We know that interviews can be stressful, so we’ll do our best to create a friendly, supportive environment that feels closer to what it’s like to actually work here — you are always encouraged to ask us questions, check documentation, and look up answers to questions as needed.
We’re committed to offering great benefits for our employees. Right now, that includes:
Four day work week!
Comprehensive health and dental insurance with 85% coverage, vision insurance with 100% coverage, and a Flexible Spending Account
Free Health Advocate, One Medical, and Teladoc memberships
A 401(k) with a 3% company contribution
20 days of paid flex time for vacation and personal use
Unlimited wellness days as needed
12 weeks of paid family leave
Pre-tax transit and parking commuter benefits
A monthly wellness stipend of $30 to spend on fitness classes, gym memberships, meditation apps, etc.
A $6,000 equipment budget to build a setup you’ll love (and re-build it every three years)
Up to $1,000 charity matching per year
Optional in-person co-working days in the NYC/NJ area
Our work environment is casual and comfortable. We're committed to making Lickability a great place to work. That means a four-day work week so we can take Fridays off to rest and recharge, the ability to work from home or in a local co-working space, flexible hours and plenty of time off, and easy collaboration with teammates.
We support each other. Our team is focused on helping each other learn and grow. What does this mean in practice? Weekly 1:1 meetings with your manager, semi-regular group learning sessions, and an environment that encourages asking questions.
Inclusivity is important to us. Our team, like much of the tech industry, is lacking diversity—we want to do better. We’re always working on making Lickability a friendly and welcoming place to work for everyone. That could be you!
