Technical Accounting Director

This position is posted by Jobgether on behalf of a partner company. We are currently looking for a Technical Accounting Director in the United States.

In this role, you will lead the organization’s technical accounting strategy and ensure the integrity of financial statements across global operations. You will act as a key advisor on complex accounting matters, including M&A, equity, debt, and software capitalization, partnering with cross-functional teams to drive strategic financial decisions. This position offers the opportunity to manage and develop policies, oversee adoption of new accounting standards, and collaborate with external auditors to maintain compliance and accuracy. The role is high-impact, strategic, and hands-on, providing visibility to senior leadership and influence over the company’s financial reporting and governance. You will thrive in a fast-paced, innovative environment while leading continuous process improvements and technical accounting initiatives.


Accountabilities:
  • Lead and research complex technical accounting matters, including M&A, debt, equity, impairment, segment reporting, and software capitalization.
  • Draft and maintain technical accounting memos, documenting company positions under U.S. GAAP.
  • Partner with external auditors and valuation specialists to resolve technical accounting issues and oversee recurring valuations.
  • Govern and update the global accounting policy library, ensuring compliance with new accounting standards and significant transactions.
  • Serve as primary accounting lead for M&A activities, overseeing purchase accounting (ASC 805) and integration.
  • Drive process improvements to enhance the efficiency, accuracy, and timeliness of financial reporting.
  • Provide strategic guidance to cross-functional teams on accounting implications of business decisions and transactions.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance; active CPA license required.
  • 8+ years of progressive accounting experience, including at least 4+ years in Big 4 public accounting. SaaS or technology industry experience is a plus.
  • Deep expertise in U.S. GAAP, SEC regulations, and complex financial reporting requirements.
  • Proven ability to research, document, and resolve complex technical accounting issues with senior management and external auditors.
  • Strong leadership and project management skills, able to navigate ambiguity and manage multiple priorities.
  • Exceptional analytical, strategic thinking, and problem-solving skills with high attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, able to convey complex concepts clearly to diverse audiences.
  • Experience with financial systems (e.g., Workiva, NetSuite) and M&A integration is advantageous.
  • Proactive, self-starter mindset with the ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
