Shifts Available: Days

Hours: 7:00am to 3:30pm

Location: Providence Medical Center-Kansas City,KS

 

A GI (Gastrointestinal) technician supports endoscopic procedures and patient care in gastroenterology departments. Their daily tasks involve preparing and maintaining endoscopic equipment, ensuring all tools are sterilized and functional. They assist physicians during procedures like colonoscopies and endoscopies, handing instruments, and managing specimen collection for lab analysis. GI technicians also monitor patient vital signs, offer pre- and post-procedural care, and provide instructions to patients regarding recovery and care protocols. Their role requires excellent organizational skills, knowledge of infection control practices, and the ability to communicate effectively with both patients and healthcare team members to ensure smooth, efficient procedural outcomes.

Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes, but not limited to):

  • Assist in preparing patients for endoscopic procedures.
  • Set up and maintain endoscopy equipment, ensuring it is clean, safe, and functioning properly.
  • Assist gastroenterologists and nurses during procedures, providing instruments and supplies as needed.
  • Monitor and document patient vital signs, alerting the team to any changes.
  • Ensure sterilization and cleanliness of instruments and procedure rooms following infection control protocols.
  • Educate and provide instructions to patients on post-procedure care and necessary follow-up.
  • Collaborate with other GI Techs and staff to maintain a smooth workflow and high standard of care.
  • Maintain an inventory of supplies and prepare orders as required.

Qualifications

Before we go any further, we do have some deal-breakers. You must have: 

1. High school diploma or G.E.D. required.2. An Associate of Science in surgical technology or related field is preferred.3. Previous experience working in the gastroenterology field is preferred.4. BCLS (AHA) upon hire and maintain current.
