The Vice President of Nursing provides executive leadership and strategic direction for all nursing services at Howard University Hospital. This role ensures the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered care aligned with academic medical center standards. The Vice President oversees nursing operations, regulatory compliance, clinical excellence, and workforce development. They collaborate with senior leadership to integrate nursing practices into organizational goals, promote innovation, and advance the hospital’s mission of excellence in healthcare, education, and research.
This position has full supervisory responsibility for nursing leadership and staff across all hospital departments. The Vice President of Nursing manages directors, managers, and clinical leaders, ensuring optimal staffing, performance management, and professional development. This role holds authority for personnel actions and budgetary oversight within the nursing division.
The Vice President of Nursing operates at the executive level, reporting directly to the Chief Executive Officer. This role influences hospital-wide strategy, policy development, and operational planning. The position requires collaboration with medical staff, academic partners, regulatory bodies, and community stakeholders. The Vice President serves as a key contributor to institutional accreditation, quality improvement, and patient safety initiatives.
