Skills
- Production experience with the Kubernetes ecosystem and tools like Helm.
- Operational experience on cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform or AWS.
- Hands-on use of infrastructure-as-code and configuration management (Ansible, Chef, Terraform).
- Programming experience in a modern language, preferably Go or Ruby, applied to automation.
- Strong incident response and on-call experience with post-incident reviews.
- Ability to design long-term solutions that reduce toil and improve system reliability.
- Clear written and verbal communication for distributed, asynchronous collaboration.
Responsibilities
- Design and implement highly scalable, reliable infrastructure to support GitLab.com growth.
- Operate and improve edge services and Kubernetes workloads, including production deployments and runbooks.
- Collaborate with cross-functional infrastructure teams to plan and deliver platform projects.
- Participate in a global on-call rotation during local daytime hours and respond to incidents.
- Automate repetitive operational tasks and reduce toil through tooling and infrastructure-as-code.
- Apply infrastructure-as-code and configuration management to manage cloud resources consistently.
- Write and maintain production-quality automation code (preferably Go or Ruby) to support reliability.
Education
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent practical experience preferred.
- Relevant certifications (e.g., Kubernetes, cloud provider certs) are a plus but not required.
