Why Join Us?
At General Dynamics Electric Boat, you won't just be observing, you'll be part of the team shaping the future of submarine innovation for the U.S. Navy. Our Summer Internship program gives you the chance to apply what you've learned in the classroom to real engineering challenges, all while working alongside experts who are passionate about mentoring the next generation of engineers.
What You'll Experience
As an intern, you'll gain exposure to multiple engineering disciplines, build practical skills, and contribute directly to high-impact projects. You'll see firsthand how collaboration drives success across departments and with our Navy partners, both on the cutting-edge COLUMBIA Class design and with ongoing improvements to the VIRGINIA Class submarines.
The Team
The mission of the Radiological Controls directorate is to be the Shipyard's conscience with respect to protecting our customers based on the basic principles when it comes to Radiological Controls. They ensure all organizations are doing their best to maintain best work practices while performing nuclear construction and repair. Their regulatory role is evaluated annually and is conditional to NAVSEA extending us the privilege of a license to handle radioactive materials.
Radiological Engineering (RE) is responsible for maintaining and interpreting Radiological Control requirements in order to ensure that appropriate Radiological Controls are incorporated into nuclear work. RE is comprised of the following groups:
