ABOUT THE ROLE

We are seeking a Piping Design Engineer to join our team supporting the DOE's Y-12 National Security Complex! This position is full-time and will be based out of Oak Ridge, Tennessee.

Responsibilities

• Support Y-12’s Mission Engineering group with full-time piping design engineering for facility and production area activities in Cat2 and Cat3 facilities.

• Provide design output documentation to support major facility modifications and project engineering.

• Design output documents typically developed by a piping design engineer within the Mission Engineering organization.

• Design piping drawings, engineering instructions, data sheets, equipment specifications, equivalency evaluations, calculations, etc.

• Works with other engineering disciplines and other plant organizations to produce timely design output.

Requirements

• Education & Years of Experience – Bachelor’s Degree in an engineering discipline accredited by the American Board of Engineering and Technology (ABET) and 10+ years of relevant experience.

• Citizenship – To be considered, you must be a United States (U.S.) citizen due to the federal nature of the work.

• Clearance – To be considered, you must be able to obtain and maintain a government issued clearance, if needed.

• Must have 10+ years of experience with Process Piping Design in accordance with American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) B31.3 Standards.

• Requires an understanding of Conduct of Engineering, Conduct of Operations, Conduct of Maintenance for facilities operating within a nuclear regulated environment.

• Requires strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to interface effectively with various clients, production and support organizations, management, and hourly wage employees.

• Must be willing to perform field walk-downs and work in a production environment.

Desired Skills

• Demonstrated experience in Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) or U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) regulated environment is desirable.

• An active DOE Q clearance is desired; however, all qualified candidates will be considered regardless of their current clearance status.

The NNSA's Y-12 National Security Complex, in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, is the nation’s only source of enriched uranium nuclear weapon components and provides enriched uranium for the U.S. Navy as well as excels in materials science, precision manufacturing, and stores enriched uranium. Y-12 supports efforts to reduce nuclear proliferation risk and performs work for other government agencies (energy.gov).
