Legal Compliance & Litigation Counsel
Location: Hybrid – Century City HQ (looking for CA-based applicants)
Lead Compliance Program: Assume full ownership for designing, executing, and evaluating the effectiveness of the organization’s compliance program, encompassing all related policies, procedures, and training initiatives.
Serve as Compliance Liaison: Act as the go-to expert for compliance inquiries and concerns, collaborating across departments to proactively address and prevent compliance breaches.
Oversee Compliance Strategy: Manage the daily operations and long-term vision of the compliance function, ensuring full alignment with legal and regulatory obligations.
Maintain Compliance Documentation: Record and maintain all compliance-related procedures and activities to ensure readiness for regulatory audits and reviews.
Develop & Refine Policies: Create, implement, and improve compliance policies, procedures, and internal controls to ensure consistency and effectiveness.
Embed Compliance Across Teams: Collaborate with cross-functional departments to incorporate compliance considerations into strategic planning, business development, and operational workflows.
Create Training Programs: Design and deliver training sessions focused on trade compliance and other relevant regulatory areas to build organizational awareness and competence.
Corporate Governance: Assist the Corporate Secretary team with all corporate governance matters, including preparing and reviewing Board of Directors and committee meeting materials and minutes.
Dispute & Litigation Oversight: Manage active and potential litigation (e.g., IP, commercial disputes) and pre-litigation matters.
Preventive Legal Strategy: Identify legal risks early and guide business teams to proactively mitigate exposure, particularly in advertising and marketing claims.
External Counsel & Cost Management: Engage and manage outside counsel efficiently for litigation, investigations, and regulatory matters.
Training & Culture Building: Develop and deliver legal and compliance trainings to support a culture of accountability and ethical behavior.
JD from an ABA-accredited law school; licensed and in good standing in California (or eligible to register as in-house counsel).
7–10+ years of legal experience, including law firm training and in-house experience at a scaling operating company.
Deep knowledge of compliance frameworks, securities law, governance, and litigation management.
Proven ability to work independently and build systems from scratch—this is a builder role, not a follower role.
High EQ and strong communication skills to build trust across teams and with leadership.
Comfortable navigating ambiguity and evolving legal/regulatory environments.
Experience with AML, FCPA, and public company policy frameworks preferred.
Operating company experience strongly preferred.
