Associate Scientist II, Process Development - Downstream

Forge Biologics is a gene therapy contract development and manufacturing organization seeking an Associate Scientist II to support downstream process development for viral vector platforms. The role involves executing laboratory experiments and protocols to optimize downstream purification processes, supporting production campaigns, and assisting with client program transfers in a regulated manufacturing environment.

Skills

  • Hands-on experience with FPLC and chromatography systems
  • Downstream purification techniques (clarification, TFF, density gradients)
  • Aseptic technique and sterile reagent preparation
  • Cell culture and transfection/infection workflows
  • Experience with inventory, QC checks, and material handling
  • Comfort working in PPE, cleanroom gowning, and confined/loud environments
  • Ability to follow SOPs, document work, and escalate deviations

Responsibilities

  • Perform maintenance and quality checks of production and testing facilities (buffers, autoclaving, equipment sanitization)
  • Culture cells, perform transfections/infections, harvest and lyse cells, and purify vectors via density gradients, FPLC, or other methods
  • Receive, inspect, quarantine, and distribute raw materials for research, preclinical, and clinical manufacturing
  • Prepare sterile reagents, formulations, and raw materials per protocols using filtration or autoclaving
  • Monitor inventories and restock consumables and cold storage supplies
  • Package and ship finished product in accordance with procedures and regulations
  • Report protocol deviations, assist with troubleshooting, and recommend resolutions to management
  • Assist in training and direction of junior Associate Scientists

Education

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Molecular Biology, Virology, Biochemistry, or related discipline required
  • Master’s Degree in relevant discipline preferred
