Feeding Northeast Florida (FNEFL) is the region’s largest nonprofit (501c3) food bank and hunger relief network. FNEFL provides nutritious foods and other essential goods to those in need and strives to improve the quality of life for people living in and around Northeast and North Central Florida by addressing food insecurity, poverty and poor health. Alongside out network of food distribution, agency and community partners, the Food Bank provides food resources and hope to help all people living in our 12-county service area (Alachua, Baker, Bradford, Clay, Duval, Flagler, Gilchrist, Levy, Nassau, Putnam, St. John’s and Union) who struggle to feed themselves and their families. Position Summary:

The Grant Writer is responsible for meeting annual institutional giving revenue goals by writing/editing high-quality, compelling correspondence, letters of inquiry, full proposals, and select grant reports/annual stewardship reports.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities:

Grant Writing and Stewardship (80%)

  • Draft concise, compelling, accurate and targeted grant proposals and reports according to grant makers’ guidelines and deadlines. 
  • Collaborate with grants team to develop strategies for cultivation and solicitation of institutional funders.
  • Collaborate cross-departmentally with appropriate program staff to collect program data, client stories, etc. to fully capture scope of services. 
  • Proofread/edit all external communication regarding grants. 
  • Grants Administration (5%)
  • Maintain grant management activities and schedules (currently Grants Calendar on Outlook, Bloomerang, Monday.com, NetSuite, and a back-up network drive). 
  • Coordinate timely handoff of grant proposals to Grants Manager, once grants are awarded. If necessary, assist in coordinating timely acknowledgement of gifts and other correspondence as it relates to institutional donors. 
  • Ensure correct information is entered into database/CRM and appropriate electronic and hard records are kept for each solicitation. 
  • Serve as Subject Matter Expert for open portfolio. 
  • Research Current and Prospective Grant Makers (10%)
  • Maintain updated research profiles to identify opportunities for increased support from existing funders and sponsors. 
  • Conduct thorough, ongoing research on foundation and corporate prospects to identify/recommend opportunities for new grant and sponsorship funders. 
  • Provide research profiles and support for meetings with foundation and corporate prospects. 
  • Other Projects (5%)
  • FNEFL special event preparation and day-of support. 
  • Represent the Food Bank at internal and external community events. 
  • Proof-read and edit any requested letters, non-grant reports, and other writing pieces on behalf of FNEFL. 
  • Other responsibilities as assigned pertaining to grant-seeking at the food bank. 

Job Qualifications:

  • Minimum of two years’ experience in nonprofit, with an emphasis on professional writing. Grant writing experience preferred. 
  • Bachelors Degree preferred; however, will accept comparable experience
  • Superb writing and editing skills with ability to translate program initiatives and impact into strong solicitation letters, proposals and reports for a variety of audiences. 
  • Solid understanding of best practices in institutional giving — familiarity with local business and foundation community a plus. 
  • Experience working with prospect research tools, donor databases and Microsoft Office applications. 
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects at once in fast paced, deadline-driven environment that requires working independently and as a team. 
  • Self-starter, strong organizational skills, attention to detail and creative problem solving. 
  • Excellent communications, interpersonal and customer service skills; comfort with public speaking. 
  • Ability to attend work functions outside of normal work hours, on weekends and evenings, as needed (rare). 
  • Valid Florida driver’s license and insurable driving record

Work Environment:

This position is in an office/warehouse environment and requires a flexible schedule and travel to accommodate FNEFL events. Work is performed indoors and outdoors with regular exposure to all weather conditions. In instances of a federal, state, or local declared emergency, FNEFL is typically considered an essential service and emergency responder; all employees may be called in to perform regular or emergent duties.

Pay Range: $50,000-55,000 subject to negotiation based on experience
