The Wall Street Journal Video team is looking for a skilled and detail-oriented Video Production Engineer to oversee and maintain our field, studio equipment, lighting systems, and production spaces. This role combines technical expertise, organizational precision, and a hands-on approach to support a fast-paced, global newsroom. The ideal candidate will be proactive, solutions-oriented, and comfortable balancing multiple production needs across teams.
Manage and maintain all field and studio equipment for WSJ Video, including Sony FX-series cameras, Sony and Canon lenses, Aputure/Sidus Link lighting systems, and various audio tools
Use Cheqroom, our online inventory management system, to track and manage daily shoot requests
Ensure all gear is cleaned, maintained, and kept to operational standards
Handle both hands-on maintenance and strategic planning for equipment upgrades, lifecycle management, and workflow optimization
Assist the video engineering team with running livestream events, media management, cloud-based archiving, and post-production workflows
Manage and maintain voiceover and video podcasting booths
Help develop and refine end-to-end workflows for field and studio productions
Provide hands-on support for breaking news, live events, and special projects
Be available to work evenings and weekends as part of a rotation or as news demands
At least five years of professional experience in video production or broadcast operations
Strong knowledge of Adobe Creative Cloud applications, particularly Premiere Pro, Media Encoder, and After Effects
Proven experience managing and maintaining camera, lighting, and audio equipment
Experience with live production and control room environments
Familiarity with cloud-based production workflows and digital asset management
Excellent organizational, communication, and time management skills
Ability to work effectively under tight deadlines in a dynamic newsroom environment
Commitment to staying current with evolving production technologies and workflows
The position in New York City and will report to the Director of Multi-Format Production.
