Part-Time Prospect Research and Outreach Associate

DonorsChoose makes it easy for anyone to help a teacher in need, moving us closer to a nation where students in every community have the tools and experiences they need for a great education.

Since 2000, more than 5 million people and partners have contributed $1 billion to support 2 million teacher requests for classroom resources and experiences. Projects range from art supplies to build the set for a school musical, to books and puzzles that affirm students’ identities, to bird seed for an at-home science project. We proudly serve all US public schools, public charter schools, and Head Start centers, and we combat systemic inequity by driving a majority of donations to schools that have been historically underfunded due to economic and racial inequity.

DonorsChoose has been recognized as a best place to work by GOOD Magazine and the Nonprofit Times, while Fast Company named DonorsChoose one of the 50 Most Innovative Companies in the World—the first time a charity has made this list. Our dedicated team works from across the United States to bring classroom dreams to life.

About the Revenue Operations Team

Our managed giving teams aim to raise $75M for public school classrooms through creative, collaborative partnerships with corporations, foundations, and individual philanthropists this school year. The Revenue Operations (RevOps) Team provides operational support for our partnerships and internal campaigns with a seamless experience for our internal and external stakeholders. Our systems support in helping us achieve our acquisition, relationship, renewal, and execute objectives for our formal partnerships. This role sits on the Prospect Development subteam and is supervised by the Senior Manager, Prospect Development.

About the Role

This role will execute deliverable-based prospect research and outreach work for our managed giving pipeline. This is a part-time, six-month temporary position with the potential to become permanent, depending on performance and the needs of the organization. We hope you’ll want to continue with us beyond the initial term, and we’ll work together to assess fit and opportunities as the role progresses.

  • This role requires an estimated 25 hours per week with flexible scheduling.
  • This role is expected to work a majority (80%) of their weekly hours during our org-wide collaboration hours between noon and 5pm ET M-F.

In this role, you will:

  • Identify and research prospective funders to evaluate giving potential and alignment with our mission.
  • Source viable leads we should target for a relationship with prospective organizations.
  • Create, update, and maintain lead and organization records on Salesforce to help track lead research and qualification efforts.
  • Support and coordinate outreach efforts to educate prospects about our work and qualify their viability as a potential funder. This includes:
  • Sending high volumes of prospect-facing cold outreach through email.
  • Drafting warm email outreach to support internal colleagues with network introductions.
  • Monitor and respond to prospect responses within 1 business day and formally transition and convert qualified prospects to pitchers for cultivation
  • Prepare deep-dive research briefs to prepare pitchers for first calls with prospective funders.
  • Support with additional tasks as needed, which may include but are not limited to:
  • Coordinate network explorations to identify potential pathways for outreach.
  • Screen front-end donors giving that reach our thresholds for high revenue potential. Record and communicate findings to the appropriate teams for continued stewardship and cultivation.
  • Manage the Partnership Center inquiry inbox for corporate and foundation prospects, and respond to inquiries within 1 business day
  • Execute special research projects as assigned by the Senior Manager, Prospect Development

This role may be perfect for you if:

  • You’re seeking a flexible, part-time role where you can make a meaningful impact.
  • You’re passionate about supporting public school teachers and students, and enjoy engaging with others to share this mission.
  • You have experience creating and managing a data set and enjoy keeping it organized, updated, and detailed. Experience working with a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) tool such as Salesforce is a plus.
  • You are confident in conducting large volumes of professional outreach via email to corporate and foundation prospects using templates and cadence communication tools like Salesloft.
  • You love diving into research projects, evaluating potential prospects, and synthesizing key insights into actionable briefs that help inform outreach strategy. Experience with tools like iWave, Hunter.io, and LinkedIn Sales Navigator a plus.
  • You communicate clearly and consistently, whether sharing research findings, drafting outreach emails, or coordinating with internal teams. You know when to ask for help and when to independently dig deeper.
  • You’re organized, efficient, and independent. You manage your time effectively to respond to inquiries, complete research tasks, and keep outreach efforts on track.
  • You are proactive, adaptable, and collaborative, always looking for ways to refine processes and share learnings that benefit the team’s success.
