Job Purpose:
We are seeking a seasoned Senior HPE NonStop Systems Administrator to manage and support high-availability HPE NonStop (Tandem) platforms used in real-time train dispatching operations. The administrator will ensure around-the-clock system reliability, performance tuning, backup readiness, and security posture. This position is vital to maintaining uninterrupted rail services and requires close collaboration with engineering, operations, and infrastructure teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain HPE NonStop systems across production and development environments
- Monitor system uptime, performance, and resource health to support 24/7 operational availability
- Execute system startup, shutdown, cold-load procedures, and recovery actions
- Configure security controls, manage user access, and respond to potential security threats
- Tune performance using tools such as MEASURE and diagnose bottlenecks
- Plan for capacity expansion and optimize system utilization
- Implement and routinely test data backup and disaster recovery plans
- Apply operating system patches, firmware upgrades, and security configurations
- Support and troubleshoot fault-tolerant configurations and high-availability architecture
- Work closely with development and operations to manage deployments and change control
- Investigate and resolve critical incidents (Severity 1 & 2), including root cause analysis
- Maintain detailed documentation, including procedures, configurations, and runbooks
- Participate in on-call duty rotations and off-hour maintenance tasks
Required Skills & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related discipline
- Minimum of 7 years of practical experience administering HPE NonStop (Tandem) platforms
- Proficiency in Guardian and OSS environments with expertise in FUP, SCF, and TACL scripting
- Experience configuring Pathway servers, NetBatch jobs, and managing Enscribe files
- Skilled in setting up and monitoring EMS (Event Management Services)
- Working knowledge of network configurations such as CLIMs and TCP/IP setups
- Experience working under tight SLAs and ensuring continuous operational uptime
Preferred Qualifications
- HPE NonStop certification (e.g., Accredited Systems Engineer)
- Over 10 years of HPE NonStop system administration experience
- Experience supporting transportation, logistics, or real-time dispatching platforms
- Familiarity with NonStop SQL/MP and SQL/MX databases
- Exposure to modern integration technologies such as REST APIs, iTPWebServer, and NSHTTP
