Organizer, Minnesota

We are looking for a creative and collaborative Organizer to join the Common Cause team in Minnesota. This is a key role supporting our organizing and outreach programs and promoting civic engagement across the state.

 

This is a full-time role reporting to the Executive Director, Minnesota and is based in Minnesota, with a preference for candidates located in Olmsted County or St. Cloud, with an expectation to travel around Minnesota at least 2 days per week, with a maximum of 5 days a calendar week during the legislative session, and peak summer engagement season. This is a termed position, starting on November 1, 2025 and ending October 31, 2027.

 

Responsibilities

Grow, diversify, and engage supporters

· Support activities to grow, diversify, and engage our base of supporters

· Participate in engaging, nonpartisan education and outreach activities to expand awareness of our work

· Assist with events, campaigns, and projects, such as Minnesota Alliance for Democracy capacity and Independent Redistricting Commission campaign

·Collaborate with other staff to promote activities through social media, and manage our content calendar, and digital issue-based advocacy newsletter

· Assist in developing compelling communication materials for outreach efforts

· Manage discrete projects within the election protection program

· Act as a representative of Common Cause at community events and coalition meetings

· Build and maintain relationships with community partners, volunteers, and members

 

Support our research and advocacy efforts

· Assist with research and advocacy efforts on democracy issues, such as voting rights, ethics, and money in politics.

· Assist in tracking legislative developments relevant to our work

· Collaborate with volunteers and interns to support our work

 

Support fundraising and advisory board management

· Support the Executive Director and other staff in fundraising efforts, including donor cultivation, grant support, and reporting for foundations and major donors

· Assist with administrative tasks for the state advisory board, including meeting coordination, logistics, and preparation of materials

 

Administrative and other duties

· Complete administrative tasks as needed

· Perform other duties as assigned

  • Interest in democracy issues, including voting rights, redistricting, campaign finance reform, disinformation, ethics, etc., with a demonstrated interest in the unique aspects of Minnesota’s political dynamic
  • Ability to meet deadlines for multiple projects at once, with attention to detail, and a resourceful approach to solving problems
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Familiarity with office productivity tools including Microsoft Office, Slack, and Zoom


The following is required:
  • Willing to have a social media presence on behalf of Common Cause, including being tagged on posts and creating content on behalf of the organization (as needed, Common Cause may provide accounts for staff members to use)
  • Ability to travel 1-2 times per year for team and/or all staff retreats
  • Ability to travel around Minnesota at least 2 days per week, with a maximum of 5 days a calendar week during the legislative session, and peak summer engagement season.
  • Per our nonpartisan policy, Common Cause staff members may not currently be in elected office (or running for office); on the Steering Committee or Finance Committee for any political candidate; or affiliated with the leadership of a political party


Additional information about this role:
  • This position is included in a union-represented collective bargaining unit and specific employment terms and conditions are subject to collective bargaining negotiations
  • Common Cause is unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment visa at this time; please note that if hired, you will be asked to produce documentation for authorization to work in the US


$63,860 - $80,340 a year
Note that as this role is based in Minnesota and there would not be a geographic adjustment.
 
In order to ensure greater equity and transparency as an organization, Common Cause sets salary ranges consistently based on job responsibilities, and we determine salary for each staff member based on relevant years of experience (you can read more about our approach to compensation here, including where we offer geographical adjustments). For these reasons, we do not negotiate on our salary ranges or our specific salary offers.
