Community Engagement Coordinator, Bureau of Bronx Neighborhood Health

The Center for Health Equity & Community Wellness (CHECW) seeks to eliminate racial and other inequities resulting in premature mortality. With an unwavering grounding in history and structural analysis, CHECW works to increase visibility of the harm perpetuated by centuries of racist, socially unjust policy while pushing towards redress for the most impacted NYC communities. CHECW addresses inequity across community and healthcare systems in partnership with community, faith-based, and health care organizations. CHECW's work focuses on social determinants of health, including environmental and commercial determinants, and addresses both upstream and downstream factors to improve health and well-being of New Yorkers. CHECW is comprised of the Bureau of Bronx Neighborhood Health, the Bureau of Brooklyn Neighborhood Health, the Bureau of Harlem Neighborhood Health, the Bureau of Chronic Disease Prevention, the Bureau of Equity Capacity Building, the Bureau of Equitable Health Systems and the Bureau of Finance, Administration, and Services. The division's Deputy Commissioner also serves as the Agency's Chief Equity Officer and oversees Race to Justice, the Agency's internal reform effort to help our staff learn what they can do to better address racial health gaps and improve health outcomes for all New Yorkers.

The Deputy Commissioner also serves as the Agency's Chief Medical Officer. The Bureau of Bronx Neighborhood Health, formerly known as the Bronx Neighborhood Health Action Centers, works to improve access to quality, culturally appropriate primary care for New Yorkers, particularly those who are at risk for poor health outcomes, strengthens the Department's ability to strategically partner with the NYC health care system, and advance policy to close racial equity gap for priority health outcomes. The Bureau aims to create and implement policy, planning, program and research interventions that maximize opportunities and increase access to affordable, high quality, and coordinated primary care with a strong focus on health equity. The Bureau of Bronx Neighborhood Health seeks to hire a Community Engagement Coordinator to engage with community partners to promote health services, resources and education.

DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:
Engage with community partners to promote health services, resources, and education.
Develop and maintain relationships with a broad variety of community partners.
Support program development, planning, coordination, implementation, and evaluation.
Coordinate community events, workshops, and presentations to promote healthy behaviors.
Represent the Bureau of Bronx Neighborhood Health at health fairs, meetings, and other external events occurring throughout the community.
Deliver presentations and workshops to diverse audiences throughout the community.
Maintain and report data that demonstrate community activities and results.
Prepare program progress reports and evaluation reports.
Participate in public health emergency response, as needed.
Support Bureau-wide programs and initiatives.

PREFERRED SKILLS:
2-3 years community work experience.
Demonstrated capability to lead implementation of special community level initiatives.
Excellent organizational skills and highly detail-oriented.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Demonstrated ability to effectively establish and maintain working relationships with community groups.
Ability to communicate in a second language.
Familiarity with Bronx communities and local community organizations.

1. A baccalaureate degree from an accredited college and two years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties described above; or
2. High school graduation or equivalent and six years of experience in community work or community centered activities in an area related to the duties as described above; or
3. Education and/or experience which is equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have at least one year of experience as described in "1" above.
