Job Summary and Responsibilities

Summary:  The Database Engineer shall report to the Engineering Manager, and collaborate across the engineering department, and with customer representatives. The main function of the Database Engineer is to determine acceptable port and power assignments, within the customer network, and update both internal and external databases and job specifications with the required information prior to, and post installation activity. 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned:

• Build and maintain records of transport infrastructure and equipment in appropriate databases.

• Accurately inputting, updating, and verifying information into company databases and software, maintaining organized records, and ensuring data confidentiality.

• Responsibilities include performing quality checks, generating reports, and sometimes collaborating with team members to clarify requirements or resolve discrepancies.

Qualifications

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, and/or QUALIFICATIONS

• BSEE or BS degree preferred.  Electronics trade school graduate combined with 1 years Telecommunications
• 2 Years Telecommunications experience
• 1-2 Years of Data Base experience or customer support experience

POSITION QUALIFICATIONS/ REQUIREMENTS

• Knowledge of transmission, Central office and remote equipment (i.e. DWDM, IP, OSP, Sonet, Digital Loop Carrier and DC power)
• Effective customer focus, analytical and organizational skills
• Key skills include strong typing, accuracy, attention to detail, and proficiency with office software like MS Office.

Ability to read, analyze and interpret common scientific and technical journals, financial reports and legal documents; ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from customers, regulatory agencies or members of the business community; ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from Executive Management, public groups clients and/or customers.

Able to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists; ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
