Position Summary

The Director of Recruiting and Community Outreach oversees and manages recruiting of prospective students and SFCC’s Dual Credit program. Creates community on campus through student engagement activities and is the primary college representative in the community. Promotes programs and services to generate support for SFCC among schools, public and private businesses, and community-based organizations. Supervises direct reports.

This is a TERM (Fixed-Term) position designated by SFCC as an at will employee assigned for a specific period of time to replace a full-time employee working on an ERP project. A term appointee has no guarantee of continued employment.

• This role may offer the opportunity for a hybrid work arrangement as determined by Chief Communications Officer.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collaborates with SFCC college administration to build a comprehensive strategic plan, thorough communication plan, work cycle, and timeline for student recruitment, utilizing student data to create targeted recruiting campaigns to increase student enrollment.
  • Coordinates campus tours for prospective students and parents, Board members, legislators, business community leaders, or other special guests of the college.
  • Coordinate with supervisors and college administration to create plans and strategies for Dual Credit offerings for the academic year.
  • Develops and manages campus visitation programs for local high schools and the high school/college conference programs in cooperation with high school counselors and counseling/career center staff.
  • Assist in establishing and maintaining relationships with partner (Secondary) school officials.
  • Administers and coordinates memoranda of agreements with partner schools and school districts.
  • Manages large-scale student engagement programming to promote retention.
  • Represents SFCC by serving on community committees, taskforces, and attending community events.
  • Serves as a liaison to and provides outreach for credit/ noncredit programming and contract training for targeted populations for workforce management, working with agencies/employers to identify programs, providing on-site advisement to, application assistance for, and registration assistance to participating students.
  • Motivates, guides, and supervises direct reports while guiding them on the department’s shared vision. Delegates tasks and responsibilities to ensure department goals are met; interviews candidates for vacant positions; trains new staff in the department; provides constructive and timely performance evaluations; addresses discipline and termination of employees in accordance with company policy.
  • Manages and implements the college recruitment and outreach plan. Conducts surveys, determines target audiences, develops specific program advertising vehicles, identifies potential opportunities for media coverage, and gathers information and feedback on the effectiveness of the recruitment and outreach plan.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Expertise in student recruitment, retention, and targeted marketing strategies.
  • Knowledge of college policies, Dual Credit programming, and institutional agreements.
  • Skilled in budget management and resource alignment to meet enrollment goals.
  • Strong communication and presentation skills across diverse audiences.
  • Proven leadership in supervising, training, and evaluating staff.
  • Experience coordinating campus tours, student engagement, and high school outreach.
  • Ability to build partnerships with schools, community organizations, and internal teams.
  • Comfortable representing the college at public events and on community boards.
  • Proficient in developing and executing strategic outreach and media plans.
  • Strong data analysis skills to assess recruitment effectiveness.
  • Committed to inclusive outreach and high-quality service for all populations.
  • Highly organized with the ability to manage multiple priorities and initiatives.
  • Skill in job-related software and programs.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Education, Communications, Business, Social Work or related field.
  • Five (5) years’ experience in student recruitment, community outreach, and program coordination (or related field) to include three (3) years’ supervisory experience.

Physical Demands and Working Conditions:

  • The work typically involves event setup and active participation, with occasional exposure to noise, weather changes, and minor physical strain.
  • Regular travel is required to attend career fairs, college campuses, industry events, and community meetings.
  • May occasionally carry or move 50 pounds.
  • Standing, sitting, and walking is frequently required.  Occasionally sitting reaching, turning and twisting.
  • Incumbent may perform repetitive tasks and hand motions.

Work Hours:

  • Standard work hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with occasional evening and weekend shifts required for recruitment events, college fairs, and community outreach.

Conditions for Continued Employment:

  • Must possess and maintain a valid New Mexico driver’s license.
