Overview:
The CDC Foundation is seeking a candidate for a full-time Health Communication Specialist who will provide strategic support, technical assistance and administrative support to the Data for Health (D4H) Initiative. This position will develop and implement communications strategies and products in support of programmatic priorities and goals and lead the implementation of a wide array of health communication and dissemination activities designed to impact positive health outcomes.
The Health Communications Specialist’s primary responsibility will be supporting communication and information dissemination for D4H. Specifically, this position will provide support in the areas of communication planning, message development, materials development, and other related activities and will support initiative partners to build capacity in communication strategies. The Health Communications Specialist will also provide administrative and partnership development support for the program.
Responsibilities:
Health Communication (60%)
· Foster and maintain peer-to-peer relationships with subject matter experts, donors, CDC Foundation employees and other partners to generate and execute strategic communications planning.
· Develop, execute, disseminate, and monitor communications and products.
· Develop and coordinate the creation and distribution of printed, electronic, and audiovisual materials for technical and general audiences, scientific journals, social media, and in-person events.
· Ensure that products conform to organizational policies, branding, and style.
· Review of scientific and non-scientific literature for project-related publications.
· Coordinate with team members, partners and consultants on health media production, publications for professional and public audiences, and electronic health communication activities.
Administrative Duties (25%)
· Prepare, negotiate and monitor project and program-related contracts and agreements.
· Manage clearance processes for communication research, evaluation, and publications.
Partnership Development (15%)
· Strengthen working relationships with internal and external partners involved within the Data for Health Initiative, such as D4H Initiative partners and government health agencies.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
· Master’s degree in journalism, communications, English, public health, public policy, or related fields.
· Minimum of 7 years of experience in the field of communications, preferably within the public health arena, including experience developing and executing a broad range of communication and media strategies.
· Demonstrated ability to produce communication products, documents, and presentation materials that are high quality and error-free.
· Practical experience and understanding of global health systems strengthening preferred.
· Experience working with diverse stakeholders, including senior leadership, subject matter experts, external partners, and donor organizations.
· Proven ability to collaborate with a team while also completing specific tasks independently on task and timeline.
· Excellent written and oral communication skills.
· Strong understanding of communication theory and its application to strategy.
· Experience engaging community partners and providing capacity building/skill-based support.
· Experience working on diverse health communications and social marketing campaigns.
· Cross-cultural competence and ability to work with a variety of partners from varying backgrounds.
· Experience translating scientific information into easy-to-understand language for non-scientific audiences.
· Ability to engage with, listen to and learn from a broad range of partners, encouraging meaningful participation and developing productive working relationships with colleagues and partners.
· Strong project management skills and ability to meet deadlines, prioritize, and stay organized.
· Experience working in a virtual environment with remote partners and teams.
· Willingness to travel internationally (up to 10% annually) and work a flexible schedule due to varying time zone requirements.
