The Opportunity:
The Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is modernizing its enterprise data capabilities through the Financial Management Business Transformation (FMBT) program. We are seeking an experienced BI Data Estate Architect with strong expertise in data infrastructure, Azure Synapse, and Databricks to help design, build, and maintain the VA’s modern data environment.
The ideal candidate will have deep technical experience in cloud-based data engineering, data pipeline architecture, and enterprise analytics enablement, supporting data integration, transformation, and analytics within the VA BI Data Estate.
Responsibilities:
Design, develop, and maintain data infrastructure solutions within the VA BI Data Estate, leveraging Azure Synapse Analytics, Azure Data Lake, and Databricks.
Build and optimize data ingestion and transformation pipelines for large-scale financial and operational datasets.
Implement scalable ETL/ELT processes that support downstream BI reporting, analytics, and data science initiatives.
Collaborate with data architects, BI developers, and analysts to ensure consistent, secure, and high-quality data delivery.
Develop and maintain data models, dataflows, and metadata structures that align with the VA’s enterprise data strategy.
Apply performance tuning and query optimization techniques to improve processing efficiency in Synapse and Databricks environments.
Implement data governance, security, and access control policies in accordance with VA cybersecurity and compliance standards.
Partner with business stakeholders and system integrators to enable data integration between Momentum Financials, legacy systems, and enterprise analytics platforms.
Support testing, validation, and troubleshooting across the full data pipeline lifecycle.
Contribute to documentation of technical processes, data dictionaries, and system architecture diagrams.

The proposed salary range for this position is:
