What you’ll do

Our team is responsible for building, maintaining, and monitoring the infrastructure platform that other teams use to develop and operate Brex’s products. We must also evangelize for, and educate other teams about, our infrastructure and best practices for running their services on top of it. This includes working with our Cloud Provider to engineer the computing, data storage, and networking functionality for our customers and other critical cloud-based infrastructure components.

As we are operating at the most foundational levels of Brex, our team’s work has a cascading effect on the entire company. We must always strive to look holistically at Brex’s architecture to uncover areas of optimization and reliability to drive efficiency.

Where you’ll work

This role will be based in our New York office. We are a hybrid environment that combines the energy and connections of being in the office with the benefits and flexibility of working from home. We currently require a minimum of two coordinated days in the office per week, Wednesday and Thursday. As a perk, we also have up to four weeks per year of fully remote work!

Responsibilities

• Lead multi-region rollout of our EKS fleet and Istio service mesh.
• Drive RDS Postgres and Aurora high-availability strategy, including cross-region replication.
• Design Terraform modules that provision VPC, IAM, and networking in minutes.
• Mentor engineers across Brex on cloud-native best practices.

Requirements

• 5+ years building or operating production cloud infrastructure on AWS.
• Deep Kubernetes experience (ideally EKS), including cluster bootstrap and day-2 ops.
• Strong PostgreSQL/Aurora operational knowledge (backups, failover, performance tuning).
• Terraform (or equivalent IaC) expertise and an eye for clean module design.
• Solid programming skills in Go or Python.

Bonus points

• Istio or another service mesh in production.
• Experience with multi-region, multi-cluster topologies.
• Chaos engineering or game-day facilitation.
• Fintech, PCI, or SOC2-regulated environments.
• Prior mentoring or tech-lead responsibilities.

Compensation

The expected salary range for this role is $192,000 - $240,000. However, the starting base pay will depend on a number of factors, including the candidate’s location, skills, experience, market demands, and internal pay parity. Depending on the position offered, equity and other forms of compensation may be provided as part of a total compensation package.
