We’re looking for our first in-house legal hire to join Braintrust. This role will be critical as we scale our sales and customer base, helping us close deals, navigate data privacy, and build a scalable legal function from the ground up.
You’ll work closely with sales, product, engineering, and leadership to negotiate enterprise contracts, ensure compliance with data regulations, and design the processes that allow us to move quickly without unnecessary risk. This is a hands-on role where you’ll set strategy and also roll up your sleeves to get deals across the line.
Contracts and Commercial Support
Draft, review, and negotiate a wide range of commercial agreements including SaaS and on-prem agreements, MSAs, NDAs, vendor agreements, consulting agreements, DPAs, and partnership agreements.
Lead legal support for complex, high-value enterprise sales transactions, and work closely with our sales team to close deals.
Build strong working relationships with customer legal teams to accelerate adoption.
Data Privacy and Compliance
Guide Braintrust’s compliance with GDPR, CCPA, and other relevant frameworks.
Partner with product and engineering to embed privacy and security best practices into the platform.
Own negotiation of DPAs and security addenda in commercial agreements.
Scaling the Legal Function
Develop contract playbooks, template agreements, and streamlined processes for the sales team.
Implement tools and systems to increase visibility, improve workflows, and maintain deal velocity.
Support governance, risk, and compliance programs.
Cross-Functional Partnership
Collaborate with Sales, Finance, HR, Product, and Engineering to ensure legal alignment across the business.
Provide strategic guidance on commercial legal matters, emerging regulations, and market trends.
Support leadership with corporate governance and fundraising as needed.
JD from an accredited law school and admitted to the bar and in good standing in California, or otherwise authorized to practice law (e.g., have registered in-house status)
5–8 years of relevant legal experience, including at least 3 years in-house at a high-growth SaaS company
Extensive experience with enterprise software agreements and technology transactions
Strong grounding in data privacy and regulatory frameworks
Ability to balance legal risk with business objectives and keep deals moving
Exceptional written and verbal communication skills with the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels
Comfort operating as a team of one while building the function for scale
Experience with AI, developer platforms, or cloud infrastructure
Familiarity with the legal considerations around AI-assisted development and enterprise adoption
Background working with customers in regulated industries such as healthcare or finance
Experience building legal processes through a hyper-growth phase
