Tell us about yourselfย ๐
Hi! My name is Sheury Soto and I'm a senior at the University of Southern California majoring in Communications and minoring in Cinematic Arts. I was born and raised in Dallas, TX, and ever since I was young, I always knew I wanted to work in Film and TV entertainment. I moved to Los Angeles when I was 19 to pursue this dream and since then, I've been lucky to have had internships at my dream companies while falling in love with the city. I'm passionate about the power of storytelling and uplifting marginalized voices through my work, and hope to pursue a career in screenwriting and development once I graduate! My favorite movies include La La Land, Lady Bird, and The Perks of Being a Wallflower.
What's your major and university? ๐
Bachelor of Arts in Communications at the University of Southern California
Describe yourself in three words ๐ฎ
A busy bee! ๐
A day in the life: Tell us about a typical day as an intern at Neon ๐
As an intern at NEON, I'm lucky to work alongside all of our departments and contribute to various projects on an ad hoc basis. I attend marketing meetings to learn how our campaigns are built out and assist our publicity team in handling talent and coordinating screening events. However, I can typically be found working with our acquisitions team to complete coverage of potential projects that NEON is considering taking on.
Internships: What excites you the most about your internship? ๐
I love working on a small team and being able to assist all departments. NEON has fostered a very welcoming environment filled with people who are passionate about what they do, which makes working here so exciting. The sky is the limit at NEON- Everyone at the company is so collaborative and eager to listen to ideas and make them happen. This work culture inspires me to work as hard as I can to bring my best ideas to the table and contribute to our company's growth.
Advice: What's one piece of advice or tip you'd give to yourself or other students? ๐ผ
Your internships don't define you, and comparing yourself to your peers is a waste of time. While it may seem easy to reduce your value to your resume, remember that you are much more than your past experiences and the right opportunities will always find you. Rest assured in knowing that everything works itself out.
Shoutouts: Who has been an advocate and supporter of you? ๐ฃ
Hannah Vega was the first mentor I ever had and has been nothing but supportive of my professional aspirations. She guided me as I began searching for major internships in entertainment and pushed me to go after what I wanted. Her prolific career in entertainment inspired me to take on numerous internships throughout college and will continue to inspire me going forward.
