Assistant Director, New Student and Family Programs

Job Description:

Berklee is seeking a dynamic, student-centered professional to join the Office of New Student and Family Programs as the Assistant Director. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a vibrant, creative environment and is passionate about helping students and their families navigate the exciting (and sometimes overwhelming) transition into college life.

Reporting to the Associate Director of New Student and Family Programs, the Assistant Director plays a key role in shaping the student and family experience at Berklee—from Orientation to Family Weekend and everything in between. This person will collaborate across campus to plan, coordinate, and implement programming that supports new students’ academic success, leadership development, and sense of belonging. They will also help build meaningful engagement opportunities for families, keeping them informed, connected, and confident in their students’ journey.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Support the planning and execution of undergraduate orientation and transition programs for new and transfer students.
  • Manage logistics for New Student Orientation and Family Weekend—including scheduling, vendor coordination, catering, and communications.
  • Develop and maintain printed and digital materials such as schedules, flyers, and student planners.
  • Oversee family engagement efforts, including responding to inquiries and managing social media outreach.
  • Recruit, select, and train student orientation leaders.
  • Partner with faculty and staff to implement a volunteer program for orientation events.
  • Monitor program effectiveness through surveys and assessment tools.
  • Coordinate room reservations, manage budget tracking, and contribute to the production of the family newsletter.
  • Take on additional duties that support the mission of the department.

Who We’re Looking For:

  • A positive and collaborative team member with a student-first mindset.
  • A professional with 2–3 years of experience in higher education, particularly in student affairs, orientation, or transition programs.
  • Master’s degree in Higher Education Administration, Education, or a related field.
  • Strong communicator—skilled in writing, public speaking, and interpersonal engagement.
  • Organized and detail-oriented, with the ability to manage complex logistics across multiple events.
  • Experienced in supervising or training student staff.
  • Comfortable with budget tracking and project management.
  • Able to respond effectively in fast-paced or high-stakes situations, including emergencies.
  • Social media savvy and confident using communication tools to engage families and students.
