About the Role:

We’re looking for an experienced HR Business Partner – Employee Experience & Events to lead Ashby’s efforts in creating a high-quality, engaging, and consistent employee experience across the entire employee lifecycle. Sitting within the People Ops team, you’ll play a key role in scaling how we connect as a distributed team — from onboarding and internal events to remote engagement, swag, and internal communications.

As the lead for employee experience, you’ll design and execute high-impact programs that bring structure and intentionality to how employees experience Ashby day-to-day. You’ll take ownership of our internal event strategy, including company-wide offsites, team gatherings, and in-person regional meetups, while also managing the programs and systems that support employee engagement more broadly — whether that’s swag fulfillment, onboarding touchpoints, or virtual connection moments.

While your core focus will be on experience and events, we’re looking for someone who brings a strong People Operations foundation. You’ve operated within (or closely with) a People Ops team and have experience owning or contributing to key functional areas like internal communications, policy development, learning & development, benefits, or compensation. You’re a clear and thoughtful communicator with strong written and verbal skills, capable of bringing ideas to life and ensuring alignment across stakeholders.

You’ve led and scaled employee experience programs in fast-paced, high-growth environments — ideally from 300 to 1000+ employees — and know how to build systems that scale globally. You understand how employee experience connects to the broader People Ops strategy and are equally comfortable thinking strategically and executing in the details.

You’ll seamlessly transition between big-picture program design and hands-on execution, collaborating across the business to deliver a best-in-class employee experience. In every initiative, you’ll ensure alignment with Ashby’s operating principles — building experiences that are thoughtful, high-quality, and grounded in how we work.

What You’ll Be Responsible For

  • +8 years of relevant experience, ideally in a high-growth B2B SaaS environment

  • Leading Internal Events & Offsites:
    You’ll own the strategy and execution of all internal events — including company-wide offsites, functional team gatherings, and regional meetups. You bring a strategic lens to event planning, while also managing vendors, budgets, logistics, communications, and design to ensure every experience is intentional, inclusive, and impactful.

  • Building Virtual & Remote Engagement Programs:
    You’ll build scalable, creative ways to connect our distributed team — from structured programming to surprise-and-delight moments. You know that engagement isn’t one-size-fits-all and are thoughtful about designing experiences that feel right for our culture and stage.

  • Elevating the Onboarding Experience:
    You’ll partner with People Ops to create a welcoming, consistent, and high-quality onboarding experience. You’ll own the experience-driven elements of onboarding and develop programming or content that enables onboarding to scale effectively as the company grows.

  • Owning Employee Experience Touchpoints:
    You’ll oversee the key touchpoints that shape the day-to-day employee experience — from milestone celebrations and swag to internal storytelling and communications. You understand the role of Ashby’s internal brand in creating elevated, consistent experiences that feel thoughtful and aligned across events, programs, and employee lifecycle moments.

  • Driving Cross-Functional Program Leadership:
    You’ll collaborate closely with teams across Ashby — including Marketing, IT, Finance, and functional leaders — to align on goals, messaging, and timing for key internal programs and employee lifecycle moments. You’re a strong communicator and a proactive project driver.

  • Building Scalable Systems & Infrastructure:
    You’ll create and improve the systems that support internal events, swag fulfillment, engagement programs, and budget tracking. You bring operational rigor and are comfortable building from scratch to support a growing, global team.

  • Bringing People Ops Expertise:
    You bring a solid understanding of People Ops fundamentals and deeper experience in one or more core areas such as internal communications, learning & development, policy, benefits, or compensation. We’re a lean team, and you’ll work closely with others in People Operations — stepping in to take on additional projects and people initiatives with ease when needed.

  • 📦 You’ve built and scaled the systems and vendor relationships that support engagement programs, events, and other employee touchpoints

  • ⚙️ Continuous improvement is how you operate — you are detail-oriented and always looking for ways to make employee experience programs more impactful and scalable

  • 🗓 You have a proven track record of managing multiple complex initiatives at once, from large-scale offsites to global engagement campaigns

Bonus points if you have:

  • An advanced degree in HR, Business, Communications, or Organizational Development

  • An HR certification (PHR, SPHR, SHRM-CP, or SHRM-SCP)

  • Experience leading change management initiatives in a scaling organization

  • A track record of building or scaling People Ops processes in a remote-first or asynchronous environment

  • Experience working with globally distributed teams

This role may not be a fit if:

  • You’re looking to simply replicate processes or programs from past roles without adapting them. While prior experience is valuable, success at Ashby requires applying principled thinking to determine what will work best here.

  • You’re uncomfortable working independently and need significant day-to-day guidance to perform your role.

  • You’re not comfortable building rapport and working closely with leaders at all levels across the company, including navigating competing priorities and having direct or difficult conversations when needed.

  • Your experience is limited to planning external events without leading internal employee experience initiatives, or you have no broader People Ops experience. While events and experience are a key part of this role, it’s important that you can also flex into other People Ops responsibilities.

  • You shy away from ambiguity and prefer only highly structured, predefined assignments.

  • You’d rather work closely with a single team than partner with multiple teams across the company.

Interview Plan:

  • 30 min Recruiter interview with Anna (Recruiting)

  • 45 min People Ops interview with Hannah (People Ops Manager)

  • Assignment

  • 60 min Hiring Manager interview with Jim (VP People & Talent)

  • 2 hr final round, including interviews with our CEO, Chief of Staff and cross functional leaders
