Thermal Engineer, Space
Skills
- Proficiency with Thermal Desktop or equivalent thermal simulation tools.
- Experience in prototyping hardware and conducting thermal tests.
- CAD experience, preferably Siemens NX.
- Thermal analysis using first principles, spreadsheet, MATLAB, or Python.
- Strong communication skills for technical presentations and vendor interactions.
Responsibilities
- Own thermal design, analysis, testing, and vendor management for space hardware development.
- Perform first principles thermal calculations and modeling using MATLAB/Python before detailed design.
- Define thermal architecture to withstand space environments including extreme temperature cases.
- Communicate thermal considerations and status at internal and customer reviews.
- Develop and execute thermal tests to validate analysis and reduce hardware risks.
- Create and maintain databases of materials, thermal properties, and vendors for space-grade thermal hardware.
- Support failure reviews and root-cause analysis through thermal data.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree or higher in engineering, applied physics, or a hard science.
