Responsibilities
- Lead material characterization and failure analysis using CT, SEM, mechanical testing, and related techniques.
- Develop and tailor test plans that balance programmatic risk and enable data-driven decisions.
- Create and maintain a central database of material properties and design allowables, including criteria for accepting new data.
- Engage with product, design, and manufacturing teams to identify material needs and grow lab capabilities.
- Investigate material-related failures, determine root causes, and recommend corrective actions to improve reliability.
- Establish, document, and train others on experimental procedures and best practices for failure analysis and characterization.
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to team technical growth.
- Apply first-principles physics to inform material selections and engineering decisions.
Education
- Bachelor’s degree in Materials Engineering, Materials Science, or a closely related field (required).
- Master’s or PhD in Materials Science/Engineering or related field (preferred).
