ESS Systems Engineer (Battery Team)
Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in EE/ME or Physical Sciences with 5+ years designing, testing, and troubleshooting energy storage systems
- Hands-on experience with battery test equipment: cyclers, thermal chambers, EIS, ACIR, hi-pot, megger, etc.
- Experience with Matlab/Simulink and/or battery algorithm development OR electrical circuit design and integrations
- Knowledge of electrochemical storage materials, cell chemistries, and operational boundaries
- Understanding of modern BMS capabilities and HW/SW/FW requirements
- Battery characterization methods: mission profile validation, equivalent-circuit modeling, cycle/calendar life assessment, safety features
- Familiarity with UN38.3, NAVSEA S9310 and/or UL/IEC battery safety standards
- Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance
Responsibilities
- Drive end-to-end energy storage system (cell, module, pack) development on accelerated timelines
- Translate CONOPs/user stories into actionable ESS and BMS requirements with program teams
- Select and validate battery cells and define ESS architecture and design concepts
- Define BMS HW and FW/SW requirements, feature roadmap, and validation plans (bench and HIL)
- Create and execute cell/module/pack validation plans; support bring-up, test, debug, and vehicle integration
- Develop production ramp plans and support transition from development units to production
- Sustain fielded ESSs via data analysis, root cause investigations, and corrective design updates
- Manage vendor relationships and coordinate supplier deliverables and qualification
- Ensure compliance with relevant battery safety and transport standards
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a fundamental Physical Science (required)
- Graduate degree (MS/PhD) in a related field with energy storage focus (preferred)
