Amidon Heavy Industries is a venture-backed startup transforming subsea inspection and monitoring. We build autonomous surface vessels (USVs) that autonomously launch and recover remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) to perform high-frequency inspections of subsea pipelines, telecom cables, and offshore infrastructure. Our system operates at a fraction of the cost of traditional crewed vessels, unlocking scalable, real-time subsea awareness for the first time.
We are hiring a Naval Architect to lead the design and development of the next generation of our autonomous surface vessel. This is a pivotal role: you will take a proven prototype and evolve it into a production-ready platform capable of meeting the performance, safety, and regulatory standards required for real-world deployment.
You will own the naval architecture function within the company, collaborating closely with our mechanical, autonomy, and systems engineering teams. Your work will ensure that our vessels are not only high-performing and reliable, but also engineered for manufacturability, maintainability, and long-term operations at sea.
Lead hullform design, stability analysis, and hydrodynamic optimization for autonomous surface vessels.
Develop structural design, weight estimates, and materials selection to meet performance and durability requirements.
Define design standards, documentation, and processes that support scaling from prototype to product.
Interface with classification societies, surveyors, and regulatory bodies to support certification and compliance.
Work with manufacturing partners to translate designs into buildable, repeatable vessels.
Conduct failure mode analysis and design reviews to ensure safety, robustness, and long-term maintainability.
Support integration of autonomy, payload, and launch/recovery systems into vessel design.
Degree in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or related field.
3+ years of experience designing and delivering vessels or marine platforms.
Strong background in stability, structures, hydrodynamics, and marine regulations.
Proficiency with CAD and naval architecture design tools.
Familiarity with classification society and flag state requirements.
Experience collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to bring designs into production.
Experience with unmanned or highly specialized vessels.
Background in composites or advanced marine materials.
Hands-on shipyard or manufacturing experience.
Track record of taking a vessel from design to delivered, operational reality.
If an employer mentions a salary or salary range on their job, we display it as an "Employer Estimate". If a job has no salary data, Rise displays an estimate if available.
