Summary:
Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Athletic Director of Athletic Performance this position is responsible for assisting with all aspects of the University’s varsity strength and conditioning program. The Assistant Strength & Conditioning Coach will direct the strength & conditioning of men’s basketball, men’s and women’s track and one other team. This position requires frequent interaction with the Assistant Athletic Director of Athletic Performance, head coaches and athletic trainers to draft and implement physical development and flexibility programs to enhance strength, speed, cardiovascular endurance and sports specific skills for each of American University’s varsity teams. This position works directly with the student-athletes in the aforementioned teams to enhance their strength, speed, cardiovascular endurance and sports-specific skills. This position is also responsible for assisting with rehabilitation of sports related injuries to student-athletes.
Essential Functions:
Responsible for the physical development for approximately three American University sports teams and student-athletes. Physically develop student-athletes for all phases of season, pre- and post-season.
Oversees day to day management of strength room, records, and equipment under supervision of Assistant Athletic Director of Athletic Performance and keeps all equipment, room and records in good order. Reports any major concerns or need for equipment maintenance or repair to the Head Strength & Conditioning Coach.
Coordinates with Athletic Training Staff on all aspects of team strength and conditioning programs and injury recovery and prevention with assigned sports or athletes.
Participate in continuing education through attendance at conferences, symposium and readings to maintain knowledge of current techniques, trends and advancements in physical development.

Salary Range:
$50,000.00 annually.
Required Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in kinesiology, exercise science, biomechanics or related field and certification in strength and conditioning (NSCA/CSCS or SCCC) required.
One year experience as a graduate assistant/intern or assistant strength and conditioning coach on the collegiate or professional level required.
1-3 years of relevant experience.
This position also requires experience with the instruction and implementation of alternative training techniques to include: plyometrics, speed and agility programs, conditioning to enhance student-athlete’s sport specific skills.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Master's degree.
Additional Eligibility Qualifications:
Experience with multi-sport weight training programs and individualizing workouts to reduce risk of injury and enhance performance.
