As a Staff Product Designer on AI, you’ll operate as a strategic leader and expert practitioner, shaping the future of our AI product experiences. You’ll define and champion UX vision and strategy for your area of ownership, partnering closely with product and engineering leaders to set direction that balances customer needs, market trends, and business goals.
In this role, you’ll tackle complex, ambiguous problems, leading by example in framing challenges, setting priorities, and using evidence-based insights to drive design decisions. You’ll mentor and coach other designers, elevate our team’s craft, and influence the roadmap at the highest levels of the organization. This is a remote opportunity within Canada and the US.
What we're looking for:
8+ years of relevant product design experience, ideally in fast-paced, product-led companies, with staff-level responsibilities and leadership presence.
Experience designing AI-powered product features or tooling (e.g., generative AI, ML-powered recommendations, large language models, etc.), or a strong interest and capacity to ramp up quickly in this space.
Strong systems thinking: the ability to design for and reason about intelligent systems, user flows with non-deterministic outputs, and complex decision paths.
Familiarity with concepts like model transparency, feedback loops, user control, and responsible AI, and how they impact product design.
A strong understanding of human-centered design principles, and the ability to apply these even when working with emerging, unpredictable technologies.
Experience designing in a cybersecurity context or for privacy-sensitive domains; a commitment to designing secure, trustworthy, and accessible user experiences.
A portfolio that demonstrates depth in information architecture, interaction design, prototyping, and visual design, with examples of AI or data-driven features a strong plus.
Comfortable navigating ambiguity, defining strategy, and bringing clarity through storytelling, facilitation, and open collaboration.
Proven ability to mentor and uplevel other designers, while role-modelling curiosity, resilience, and thoughtful design critique.
A growth mindset and a track record of navigating complexity and change with focus and optimism.
Bonus points for:
Strong experience with inclusive design and accessibility, ensuring that designs are usable by all.
Experience scaling design systems or shaping design guidelines for complex, multi-platform products.
Contributions to the design community. (e.g., open-source projects, speaking engagements, or published writing)
Familiarity with developer tools or technical domains adjacent to cybersecurity.
What you can expect:
Identify and define design solutions for complex and ambiguous problems—particularly in emerging AI-driven security spaces—collaborating with product and engineering to influence strategy and roadmaps through clear framing, prioritization, and customer-centric insights.
Lead the creation of a long-term UX vision and strategy for “AI for Security”, and “Security for AI” features, inspiring and aligning cross-functional teams around what's possible with responsible, privacy-aware AI.
Champion evidence-based design decisions by identifying data and research gaps, partnering with research to explore customer behaviors and expectations around AI, and translating findings into thoughtful design.
Explore and prototype novel AI-driven interactions to assess their viability and usability, ensuring that user value, clarity, and control remain at the center.
Act as a design leader and mentor, coaching designers on strategic thinking, systems-level design, and experimentation practices in AI contexts.
Collaborate closely with the AI workstream including product, engineering, research, and data science teams to ensure that user experience is integrated into model design and deployment decisions.
Advocate for ethical and inclusive AI design, ensuring our features align with our values around privacy, trust, and accessibility.
Operate as a culture-builder on the EDR team—sharing work in the open, shaping design team rituals, and helping others navigate ambiguity and change in a fast-moving domain.
Pioneer the exploration and adoption of AI design tools on the EDR team and at 1Password.
