Responsibilities: Assist Program Leaders with meetings, grading, and substituting as needed, engaging students using prepared materials and providing feedback on assignments.
Skills: Proficient with G-Suite, Zoom, Canvas LMS, strong written and verbal communication, organizational skills, and a growth mindset.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree or current enrollment in an undergraduate program, with at least 1 year of tutoring or substituting experience in academia, and familiarity with educational technology.

Compensation: $15 - $20 / Hourly

About this Role
Program Assistants provide valuable support to Program Leaders and Mentors at Williamsburg Learning by assisting with meetings and substituting. Grading duties result in more hours if there are Mentors in the program that opt into it. Program Assistants support the Program, including the Program Leader and Mentors in the program. Mentors are ultimately responsible for ensuring that grading and communication align with Williamsburg Learning guidelines.

Note: The responsibilities of this position will primarily be done remotely. Additionally, this position may act as a Substitue or Guide for our in-person Adventures program, school club leader, or grading assistant during the school year.
Agenda Management & Meeting Scribe
- Attend recurring or ad hoc meetings as requested by the Program Lead.
- Create agendas, take notes, and complete follow-up action items as needed.
- Hold a regular 1:1 with the Program Lead based on needs.
Serve as the Program Substitute Mentor
- Substitute Mentors will be provided with prepared slides or lesson plans, and the course syllabus. They should review readings and topics for the class session(s) and be prepared.
- A substitute should follow the lesson plan unless permission to alter the plan is given by the administration. Substitute Mentors engage students in meaningful discussion using prepared lesson materials.
- They should be familiar with the Rules of Engagement, The Honor Code, and the basics of managing a classroom in either the physical environment or the online environment.
- After the class has ended, a substitute provides a brief but detailed report to the class mentor on what material was covered, what insights/issues were raised, and shares any concerns or suggestions for moving forward.
- Substitute Mentors fill in for online Mentors during planned and unplanned absences from the virtual classroom. Substitute Mentors have a familiarity with The Williamsburg Curriculum and The 6 Mentor Practices and are aligned with Williamsburg Learning’s mission and educational philosophy.
Grading
- If Mentors choose to have a Program Assistant grade, the assistant is allotted a certain number of hours based on the student enrollments and this has to be set up by People Operations prior to the school year.
- Grade student work and provide timely (within 3 days), detailed, and quality feedback on assignments within Canvas Learning Management System (LMS)Monitor the weighting of assignments, checking for accuracy.
